Top 200 Overrated Albums

**Trigger warning**

Albums and EPs rated 8.6+ from 100+ votes which I've given an 8 or lower to.

I've listened to and rated every album on MS that meets this criteria (at time of most recent update) - some of them multiple times - so I feel I can give my honest opinion.

The purpose of this is to list and order the albums that I simply don't "get" and to try re-listening to them in the hope of understanding why they've received so many 9 and 10 votes.

Ordered by my rating then MS rating then number of votes.

1001 Metal Albums to Hear Before You Die

An ongoing list for personal use as well as for reference for beginners (& veterans alike). This is solely my personal opinion and taste (Death & Prog mostly but do give every genre a try). Basically will include albums I've rated 8 & above. Sorted by year since I'll need a Venn diagram to sort by genre (seriously MS please make it happen if possible). Will feature multiple releases per year (obviously) and per band (since if a band is putting out better albums it deserves more recognition). Keeping the metal faith alive from India

1.Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
2.King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King
3.Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin III
4.Black Sabbath - Paranoid
5.Uriah Heep - Look At Yourself

The Best Metal Albums* From A To # (H)

This list is meant to be an extensive, but by no means exhaustive, collection of the greatest (modern) metal albums and eps. Running the gamut from avant-garde to trve norweigan black metal. *As someone who is young in age, my tastes tend to revolve around the period of the 80s to the present.* Although certain metal albums from before will certainly be featured, the period of the 60s-70s will be under-represented. I refer you to this excellent list to gain a better appreciation for some of the best metal from that period: https://rateyourmusic.com/list/freis/martin_popoffs_the_top_500_heavy_metal_albums_of_all_time/

1.Haar - The Wayward Ceremony
2.Hacride - Lazarus
3.Hades - The Dawn Of The Dying Sun
4.Hænesy - Garabontzia
5.Hæthen - Shaped By Aeolian Winds

Empowering Albums For Powerless Losers

This is a list of all the power metal albums I have listened to that are worth remembering. Like my other genre lists, this is not meant to be a definitive guide to power metal or a binding judgment on what power metal is or is not. The list exists purely for my own organizational purposes and may contain bands or albums that are not strictly True Knights of the Eternal Thundersword.

The first cluster includes my favorite albums in the genre (and a significant number of my all-time favorites); beyond that, they are listed by rating from 9/10 down to 6/10 and alphabetically within each bracket.

Last updated November 27, 2021.

1.Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle-Earth
2.Blind Guardian - Imaginations From The Other Side
3.Blind Guardian - Somewhere Far Beyond
4.Jag Panzer - Thane To The Throne
5.X Japan - Art Of Life

Stuff that got me hooked in the course of the years, from my very first blurred memories as a toddler to the present day.

1.Queen - Jazz
2.Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
3.Dio - Holy Diver
4.Metallica - Ride The Lightning
5.Einstürzende Neubauten - Halber Mensch

Sibling Albums

So like albums that have a clear tie between them, were recorded around about the same time and were clearly intended together, as opposed to a sequel coming years after. Some of these have actually been released together, as can be seen here.

That's about all I can think of right now. So feel free to think of some more for me.

1.Opeth - Deliverance
2.Opeth - Damnation
3.Metallica - Load
4.Metallica - Re-Load
5.Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I

Helloween Discography (Ranked)

My personal ranking of all the Helloween studio albums. I found it surprisingly difficult to rank the albums from Master Of The Rings to The Dark Ride. I think all of those albums have great songs, but also have a few weak songs. The Keeper 1 and 2 albums sometimes switch position depending on mood. It is worrying that their 2 latest albums are in the bottom 3. My God-Given Right would definitely be bottom if the travesty that is Chameleon hadn't been released. I decided to leave Metal Jukebox out as it's a cover album.

1.Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II
2.Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part I
3.Helloween - Walls Of Jericho
4.Helloween - Master Of The Rings
5.Helloween - The Time Of The Oath

The Ultimate Metal Albums

My personal favorites. These albums are as perfect as an album can get, they always bring up the adrenaline and have in many ways changed the way I perceive music, expanding the horizons of metal in various ways. Most important of all they never get old or boring and therefore should be given a chance.

1.Angra - Temple Of Shadows
2.Helloween - Keeper Of The Seven Keys Part II
3.Symphony X - The Divine Wings Of Tragedy
4.Adagio - Underworld
5.Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith

Guib's Essentials (Alphabetical Order)

Wanna know what I headbang to on the regular? The releases that have seen countless re-spins... Well, this is a very simple list and something you've probably seen a lot of other MS users do in the past. Basically, I'm just going to list what are essential metal albums for me, my all time gems & masterpieces (very subjective and some are also in there due to nostalgia and sentimental value).

There's no particular ''Genre'' that I'll be covering and I will also try to limit myself to two albums per band and a few of my favorite tracks or highlights per album. Of course everything in this list is just my opinion, meaning that I'm not saying these albums are all masterpieces or whatnot, it's just my personal favorites. I hope most of you will agree with me and those few who don't, well... it's okay to be wrong, the next step is acceptance
