Cool? ...aka The 50% Black List

Howzat, two of my all-time fav releases recently turned 10 and 5 years old. They should get anniversary reissues. Make those great bands some more dough, among other things...

Numbers 9 and 23 on this list are so good, I can't really pick favourite songs. Could say that Sons' opening number is a bit forgettable, and The Difference Engine's fourth track is just a bit too weird for me. Still, they get 98.2/100 scores from me. Best possible result, eh?

1. Fatboy Slim - Halfway between the Gutter and the Stars
2. Queens of the Stone Age - Rated R
3. Offspring - Conspiracy of One
4. Eidolon - Nightmare World
5. Muse - Origin of Symmetry

Why These Are My Favourite Albums: Avant-80s Selections From Perfect Or Near-Perfect Works

My utterly favourite songs from pre-1980 classics, rendered in my never-really-humble opinion, as everything should be. With few exceptions, every song on each album that made the list rocks - that's why I've rated them 9 or 10 - but these are my absolute favourites:

Taste record from around the same time should make an appearance at some point in the future; Judas Priest and Cream... we'll see]

1. Deep Purple - Shades of Deep Purple
2. Deep Purple - Deep Purple
3. Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
4. Jethro Tull - Stand Up
5. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin

Top 10 Power Metals for a Guy Who's Not Really into PM

With the express exclusion of Na, Mg, K, Ca, Cr, Fe, Cu, W, Hg, etc.

Yeah, I should have put up Viron's cover art as the image but that Dokken single (associated with an Elm Street movie) just looks far more interesting. Whether or not that was a PM addition to a Hollywood soundtrack may be a point of relevance, but to me it's immaterial. Go listen to the music!

1. Eidolon - Nightmare World
2. Tad Morose - Modus Vivendi
3. Brainstorm - Soul Temptation
4. Children of Bodom - Downfall
5. Viron - NWOGHM

Some Of The Best Music Ever Made: Syk's Picks Of Les '80s

They were the best of times, they were the worst of times. Then thrash kicked glam out of the way, and once again, it was the best of times. Aside from #15 and 16, albums here with an even number of tracks mentioned score highly 9/10. All others get top marks from me.

Diamond Head's debut came close. Powerslave may yet make an appearance (or two). Rory G / Box of Frogs almost made the list, but I listened to the CDs again only to find they're actually rather Average...

1. Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden
2. Jeff Beck - There and Back
3. Iron Maiden - Killers
4. Metallica - Kill 'Em All
5. Dio - Holy Diver

Please Stop Feeding Crap to Your FOC

In the last several hours, I have (as is rarely the case) had a good, big breakfast + dinner.

I feel great.

...as is rarely the case. So - what have I consumed, to put this diamond-in-the-rough smile on my dial? For once, no junk. No crap. No chips, no lollies, no chocolate bars, no Great White Bread. No shark either - but indeed, some fantastic fish.

1. Anata - Under a Stone with No Inscription
2. Bloodbath - The Fathomless Mastery
3. Cryptopsy - None So Vile

Had to Play Today (Order Doesn't Mean Terribly Much Here)

Bunch of good songs, here. Gonna compile a list or seven of the songs I can competently play on guitar. I might be happy to teach these, or at least provide some tabs

1June:actually was playing these all in D tuning. When not jamming along to the recording, I tend to use whatever key is my open string / 7 up, a strategy which may change if I ever get around to singing at the same time

1. Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
2. Blind Faith - Blind Faith
3. Queens of the Stone Age - Queens of the Stone Age
4. Mastodon - Blood Mountain
5. Elvis Presley - Can't Help Falling in Love
