New reviews

From the abyss, dawn is born: it’s a wonderfully poetic name for a band (in French, De L'Abîme Naît L'Aube), and it does a great job of encapsulating the melancholic atmospheric beauty of the Swiss sextet’s fledgling music style.
At The Gates have written many songs about death, but none quite as poignant as these: the final works of Tomas Lindberg.
DevilDriver - Strike And Kill
Melodic death metal, Groove thrash metal
Review by omne metallum
Can the devil drive manual?
Protest The Hero - Within
Progressive metalcore
Review by musclassia
Arriving 6 years after Palimpsest, Within represents the end of the longest gap between releases in Protest The Hero’s discography. At 36 minutes in length, it’s not a case of the band stacking up the material over those years, but instead this is a declaration of freedom and expansion.
Sojourner - Gateways
Atmospheric black metal
Review by AndyMetalFreak
Sojourner have returned after 6 years in the dark; now they've opened a gateway to a new era that looks promising.
Trichomoniasis - Containment Facility
Avantgarde metal, Brutal death metal
Review by Roman Doez
The ultimate act of symbiosis between noise music and brutal death metal.
Truck Violence - The Weathervane Is My Body
Post-Hardcore, Noise rock
Review by AndyMetalFreak
With a band name like Truck Violence and an album titled The Weathervane Is My Body, you can expect something strange and original, and that's exactly what you have here.
The combination of ash from all those fiery volcanoes and icy cold winds blowing in from the Arctic seems to have created something in the Icelandic air for black metal to thrive the way it has been, and it's certainly been working wonders for Forsmán.

We here at Metal Storm pride ourselves in the metal that we live and breathe, and most importantly, write about. But there's a whole world out there aside from Satan-worshiping black metal and dragon-slaying power metal. Here's what we checked out this month.

Blackened death metal
Jul 17
If your summer playlist is starting to get a little too relaxing, allow me to recommend Skaphos' The Descent.

This album is the perfect soundtrack for a sunny afternoon by the sea... before getting dragged into pitch-black waters by whatever Lovecraftian deep-sea horror creature has been patiently waiting beneath your inflatable crocodile.

The band's abyssal blackened death metal hits with crushing weight, though melodic undertones ocassionally break the surface just long enough to let you catch a quick breath, right before the next slab of dissonance drags you back beneath the waves.

Maybe the hotel pool isn't so bad after all.
