Godflesh - Frontman Talks About New Material

Blabbermouth is telling me that Godflesh mastermind Justin Broadrick has told Decibel Magazine that the band is slowly putting together ideas for a new studio album.

"It's something we're discussing all the time, and I do have bits and pieces of material," he said. "But it's something we'd really like to develop. It'd be quite easy to knock out eight to 10 in-character songs and release it as quickly as possible to capitalize on the popularity of the group, but it would feel entirely wrong. If it's another two years until another Godflesh record, so be it. The most important thing is making a record that stands up with the rest of the back catalogue. I do have this in me again, though."

Another extract of the interview with Justin Broadrick (where he talks about the band's reunion appearance at Hellfest) can be found here. The full interview can be read in the January issue of the magazine.

Godflesh - To Re-Release Streetcleaner

Original news, posted on 01.02.2010

The seminal Godflesh album Streetcleaner is about to get a re-release to coincide with the band's brief reunion for Hellfest. Justin Broadrick is currently re-mastering the album.

From his blog: "I have had a few questions/assumptions on Twitter regarding the news that the Godflesh Streetcleaner LP is being reworked. The truth is that I am finally remastering the album, there are no remixes/re-recordings or such nonsense. Additionally, I am hoping to compile an extra discs worth of rough and original mixes from the Streetcleaner studio sessions, also rehearsal versions, etc. More news as I compile this. If all goes to plan, this will be a very exciting and much needed update of the Streetcleaner LP. Planned for release on Earache in June 2010 to coincide with Godflesh at Hellfest."

UPDATE (thanks to Wilkinson)

Earache Records has announced more details about Streetcleaner, the seminal 1989 album from Godflesh, that is to be remastered and reissued in a deluxe digipak.

Streetcleaner is being brought up-to-date as a special expanded version, with all tracks remastered by Godflesh founding member Justin Broadrick. The album also includes a bonus disc featuring 12 previously unreleased live tracks, alternate mixes and demos, and comes housed in a deluxe multi-panel digipak with detailed liner notes.

Godflesh founding member Justin Broadrick comments: "Long awaited, and now fleshed out to the MAX, Streetcleaner, THE most direct statement of intent we made as Godflesh, finally presented as it should be...."

The album will be available in Europe on June 21st, and in North America on August 10th.

Godflesh - Reunion Show At Hellfest Confirmed

Earache has confirmed that industrial metal pioneers Godflesh will reunite for what is most likely to be a special one-off show at next year's Hellfest Open Air. Previous bands that have reunited to perform at France's most famous metal event include Carcass and Amebix.

Godflesh formed after Justin K Broadrick left Napalm Death in order to pursue a different musical direction. After 6 LPs and a number of very well received EPs, the band decided to call it quits. JKB later went on to form the currently well known shoegaze-metal band Jesu. There are currently no reports that this reunion will result in more than just a special one-off show. The Hellfest staff are expected to confirm Godflesh as part of the festival's line-up shortly.
