Woah, no thread for one of the greatest forces in the world of ultra tormented music? Not on my watch. Maurice de Jong AKA Mories is the mind behind many projects that go from Black, drone, noise, ambient and all in between. He's one hell of a busy bee, constantly releasing new stuff from all his different projects: - Gnaw Their Tongues (Probably the most well known and sickest one) - De Magia Veterum (A slightly more structured take on black metal, just as unique though) - Cloak Of Altering (Quite magestic stuff... A sense of melody here) - Aderlating (Mostly ambient-like stuff but still some burst of insanity) - Seirom (Ambient, this is where Mories makes some stuff that is actually uplifting and light. Very interesting!) ...and some others I'm not familiar with. He has also worked (providing samples, mastering or artwork) for many other extreme metal bands like Alkerdeel, Anaal Nathrakh,The Austrasian Goat, The Beast of the Apocalypse, etc. So yeah folks... Here's a thread to discuss about this genius of extreme music and layers. Here you have a taste for each of the projects I just named! Discuss! _______ Written by Oaken on 13.06.2012 at 16:01 Cloak Of Altering is actually one of his most accessible projects. His projects In order from more to less structured would be: - Cloak Of Altering - De Magia Veterum - Gnaw Their Tongues (This is where shit starts to get dizzy in terms of structure) - Aderlating Even so, I still think there's a large amount of structure in his work but he has the ability to confuse you and make you think otherwise. Gnaw Their Tongues is my favorite out of those I named but not by much as I love everything he has ever done.

I actually didn't know Aderlating, Cloak of Altering and Gnaw Their Tongues had something to do with eachother. I only vague remembered that Aderlating had some metal connection. They're all pretty cool (though Aderlating hardly stands out in its genre), so that's nice to know. Never heard DMV before.

Here's another song that it's not nearly as quiet as the one I posted. I personally love it but I'm a huge fan, you may sue me The dude is a master when it comes to layers. Be sure to check out more of DMV! This is from his latest album that got reviewed by Der.

From the samples I've heard of Gnaw Their Tongues I'm not really a fan, but I'll check out more when I get home.

14.06.2012 - 19:11 Written by Boxcar Willy on 14.06.2012 at 18:56 In case you want some recommendation considering the big discography of GTT, I would recommend you "An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood" and "Per Flagellum Sanguemque, Tenebras Veneramus" but specially the first one. It's the first GTT I listened in its entirety and I think it's a great one to start. Although the other one has some fantastic work too, specially dig the jazzy drums. Edit: That's it... I can't post every time someone else post. It's getting pathetic!

It would be good if you link this topic to profile of related bands. It would be much easier to find. On topic: Anyone having any clue why this guy has been relatively lazy this year?

03.11.2013 - 23:14 Written by mz on 03.11.2013 at 23:12 well, in The Netherlands Surinam people are considered extremely lazy by racist white Dutch. Surinam used to be a colony of ours which only gained independence in 1975.

03.11.2013 - 23:58 Written by mz on 03.11.2013 at 22:55 Aaaaah thanks. Never thought of doing that. Now it's linked to Gnaw Their Tongues and Cloak Of Altering (couldn't link it to De Magia Veterum because that profile isn't complete). As for him being relatively lazy. The reason you probably think that is because he has worked on the stuff that isn't metal related. This is what he has done so far this year: Aderlating: - Spear Of Gold And Seraphim Bone Part Two (full-length) - Gospel Of The Burning Idols (full-length) Seirom: - Sparkle Night (EP) - Goodbye Cold Nights (EP) ...And of course the collaboration with Alkerdeel.

04.11.2013 - 00:42 Written by mz on 03.11.2013 at 22:55 He had mentioned in an interview recently that whenever he tried to compose something for GTT or DMV or any of his black metal influenced projects he's having a feeling that it was already done before. So he's putting new stuff from those projects on hold for a while it seems. Anyway here is what the latest updates speak. Seirom - Goodbye Cold Nights EP (Feb 2013) Seirom - Sparkle Night EP (April 2013) Aderlating - Gospel of the Burning Idols (May 2013) Aderlating - Vol II: The Black Plague [various artists] (July 2013) Aderlating - Spear of gold and Seraphim bone Pt.2 (Oct 2013) Mors Sonat - Comforts In Atrocity (May 2013) Cloak Of Altering - Plague Beasts [single White Inverted Void released in Nov 2012 in soundcloud] (Dec 2013) Gnaw Their Tongues - Dyodyo Asema [collaboration with ALKERDEEL] (Nov 2013) Gnaw Their Tongues - Swan Blood Mr. Kurten [single in soundcloud for the new GTT album planned for 2014) On the other hand I agree that this thread should somehow be linked to the band's home page.

@^ & ^^: thanks guys for info. I thought that has released just one Seirom EP, one aderlating EP, that collaboration with alkerdeel and Mors Sonat, which all in all, will be 4 EPs/Albums/collaborations. I did miss some of his other works this year. I also read in an interview that he is not interested in publishing albums which have been done before. I think this explains his lack of new materials for GTT, as 3rdworld stated.

Cloak of Altering and specially Gnaw Their Tongues are sick stuff... Funnily I already knew De Magia Veterum, but I for some reason decided that it was interesting but not enough... Sure I'm starting to like this guy.

04.11.2013 - 22:04 Written by Karlabos on 04.11.2013 at 21:14 Compared to his other stuff. De Magia Veterum is certainly his most metal and "normal" project, but compared to BM in general it's still unique stuff worth a few tries. A very interesting sense of chaos yet still not a mess along with the twisted dissonance. The latest album is particularly delicious. Barely 30 mins. Serves as a nice expresso hahahaha. Migdal Bavel is also a personal favorite. Some unusual melodies and a mechanic vibe hidden here and there.

So my first ever experience (barring the split with Alkerdeel I guess) was For All Slaves... A Song Of False Hope, and I'm not exactly sure that was a good idea because now I'm kinda deterred from checking anything else from him. Probably shoulda started with something a little easier.

30.03.2014 - 22:15 Written by [user id=101272] on 30.03.2014 at 20:59 My first Gnaw Their Tongues (and contact with any of Mories works) was An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood which I love to this day. I doubt how much easier on the ears that one is though! I suggest you to start off with Cloak Of Altering. Here you have the debut. Very melodic compared to everything else he has done. Some stuff is even majestic or beautiful in their atmosphere. The second album has some cool electronic stuff merged into it. Also some ncie melodies.
