If you could encase within a coffin all that is texturally appealing about doom metal, Pallbearer knowingly carry six of these coffins to their grave in Foundations Of Burden. This is not to suggest that they simply bring the traditional sound of a genre to its untimely end, but, rather, in our modern era they place it respectfully in an ideal and honourable resting place. Ad Memoriam Doom.

Weird. I just recently decided to give their debut another shot because I don't remember being at all impressed with it the first time around.

Weird. I just recently decided to give their debut another shot because I don't remember being at all impressed with it the first time around.

Definitely give it another few listens. It's a highly regarded album and it took me a few listens to get on board, but it definitely meets the hype if I had to be honest. Maybe try listening to their demo instead- once I heard the demo, I didn't visit the full-length album as frequently.

I cannot wait for this album.

Yeah my problem was that I heard the demo first and the album was a bit underwhelming compared to it.

I did listen to the debut before the demo, and found it much more interesting than the former.

A lot better than the underwhelming debut which was a disappointment compared to the demo.
One of the best doom albums of the year thus far, this one.

I'd say they're about even in terms of quality, this and the debut.

Seems like they sped-up their doom a bit for this album.
I like it so far, but I don't think I'll like it more than the debut.

Second listen: Feels a song too long. Every time so far I've felt satisfied with the playthrough of the album and after the beautiful Ashes, I expect the album to end right there (or want to, at least), then Vanished comes on and I go "Oh god, there's another one." I ended up skipping it this time. Doesn't help that the song is the longest one on the album, and there's nothing particularly memorable about it except the end.

The demo didn't have Foreigner, which is by far the best song for me. For me the demo/studio versions of those two songs are just different, i didn't really find either better or worse. Demo has more prominent vocals, studio sounds beefier with the riffs.

Their best song by far is their cover of Gloomy Sunday.

Debut album has a worse sound overall, too muffled. No room to breathe. And the debut album versions of their own two songs which also featured on the demo don't come near the quality of the demo versions.

Why do you say 'studio sounds'? The demo was also recorded in a studio just like the debut full-length was recorded in a studio.

Yeah they didn't. This isn't as good as the demo. It's a great album. Just not on the same level

I honestly don't think it's a worse sound. It's just thicker to me. I prefer 'Devoid...' on the album, and 'The Legend' on the demo, but i prefer 'Foreigner' and 'An Offering...' even more than those two anyway.

I didn't mean studio as in the recording sounds, i meant the studio, as in album, just bad use of wording haha.

I haven't heard the debut, but I did give the demo a spin a year ago or so. And I wouldn't really be able to say which I prefer. But in itself, this is a very nice piece of doom.

This just gets better & better with every listen for me. A big improvement over their Debut (which I still enjoyed) & much closer to the quality of their fantastic demo

Doom of the year me thinks for now.

When it comes to traditional doom, no doubt about that at all. When it comes to doom in general, there are other albums I prefer to this one.

Great atmosphere, but those melodies are incredibly stale. This pales in the face of other epic doom bands...
