I don't agree at all that showcasing another countries flaws is punching down. Living in Canada improved your friends life without question over her situation in China, and that's something that Canadian's can be proud of.

Huh? I've said that multiple times now. It makes you blind to what is still there to achieve. Go back to the beginning of this whole exchange, all the arguments you're looking for are there.

But Canada, along with many other countries, are on the forefront of development, humanitarianism, and progress in many aspects. Why is it wrong to be proud of these accomplishments?

Wait, are we back at platitudes? Come on, dude. Stick with the arguments, we're getting somewhere. This is not the point to stop, this is the point to broaden your horizon.

Or that Canada has a perfect history.

Being proud to be Canadian doesn't mean I don't think life in Canada can't improve.
