The second album of Max Cavalera with his new band Soulfly was released in the year 2000. The main genre is alternative or nu metal metal with some traces of thrash and it's not too much like their self-titled debut album. Primitive was the first album of a band of MaX Cavalera to reach the The Billboard top 200 (namely, 32nd place).
The band performed some tribal musical motives on this album which give the album variety and make it more interesting by creating a special tribal atmosphere and prepare the audience for lyrics.
As with the first album that featured lots of guest musicians, this album has many guest appearances as well. This can be good but also bad. The good thing is that the guest appearances give the album various musical genres such as rap-metal and other styles, overall making the album's performance level higher as the band performs a variety of different genres beside their original style on a single album. The bad thing is that many listeners may have an impression that the band doesn't has enough ability to perform anything on their own. This, of course, is up to every listener to decide. In my opinion there isn't anything bad nor anything particularly good about it, after all, this album deserves an 8 for I love this band.
Among the tracks there are not too much solos and changes during the music but the riffs are heavy and worth listening, for instance like "Terrorist". Some of the songs have new musical aspects in them like "In memory of..." or "Jumpdafuckup". One can find the original stylistic features of the group in "Back To The Primitive", "The Prophet" and "Bring it". The tracklist also includes an instrumental song called "Soulfly II" (similar to the other songs titled in such a manner that can be found on their other albums) plus there are two live performances and two remixes as bonus tracks.
Last but not least, along with the great lyrics of Max Cavalera this album is a very good one.

The huge ammount of guest musicians turn this album a litte chaotic. But I still like it more than the Self-Titled. Tribal drums throughout the album are always welcome  Good review

For me, this album is absolute garbage with lots of guests contributing to get this album in fucking limelight. I won't be ashamed if I say this is their one of weakest record horizontally and vertically. But i do admit "Eye for an eye" is hell of great song.
