With first Persefone and now Eternal Storm, Daniel R. Flys has appeared, within the span of a fortnight, on two records that will doubtless rank among the best that 2024 has to offer in progressive melodeath come year end.

One of the few promising melodeath bands today.

Band's such as Insomnium, Be'lakor, and Omnium Gatherum from the melancholic side of melodeath have proven difficult for me to get into in the past, and this band seems to come under that particular category. However, these guys have somehow, really hit the nail on the head for me.

The quality is very consistent throughout this album, there's some exceptional emotionally charged songwriting with very few dull moments despite it's length, and excellent all-round musicianship performances on display. I'm very impressed I must say.

Damn this was greater than I expected, always Down for melancholic blistering melodeath, songwriting is on point, and the melodies are enchanting. Bravo!

Very, very interesting. I never heard them before so it was quite a discovery for me. Great album. I will be spinning it for weeks. I am totally hooked.

I'm conflicted...there are some great sounding moments on this album, but there are these passages or entire songs detract from the experience. One moment I'm listening to first-rate melodeath and then bedroom guitarist licks in the next.

To be specific, my gripe is mostly with the guitars (though the other instruments and vocals suffer similarly at points)...it's almost as if the two guitarists contributed equally, but had no influence on what the other wrote. And when the two skill-levels are placed side by side together it's really jarring.

The best example of the writing I'm talking about is "There Was A Wall". I just can't conceptualise how it's the same band that wrote the goosebump-raising moment at ~01:00 of "A Dim Illusion".

Anyhow, I know I'm in the minority and sound very harsh. Maybe someone has a better way of articulating this than I do.

Finally a melodeath band with some cajones.

Besides Mors Principium Est, Be'lakor, & a splash of Insomnium I think MDM sucks & is extremely generic. I literally like almost nothing that comes from that scene even though I keep trying the "great new MDM album" that comes out, which invariably is disappointing and deriv. This album is a rare exception, well done guys. Really strong songwriting. I'm still figuring out my favorites but the first two tracks keep standing out to me.

I really don't know how did I miss their debut album and that too from my favorite genre. This album is An aoty contender for the genre. 'Last Refuge' is a repeat listen for me.

Its a LONG album. Without being crazy original, after given the appropriate time with it, it REALLY grows on you!
