I live on a very multicultural street, mostly dominated by Romanian, Slovakian and Polish people, all are fine and I get on with them. It's only a minority that are the problem and they tend to be young English

Sirenia has for a long time been a band that, release after release, managed to divide their fan-base into those that appreciate their releases with all its flaws, and those that mourn the long gone days of Veland's creation in Tristania and early Sirenia. The Enigma Of Life further escalated the gap between the two sides and it seemed like Sirenia had lost all of its creativity in the process. Gone were the classical days when the orchestral arrangements were not used as a gothic gimmick, gone also were the days when Morten Veland was still somehow involved in the more extreme direction of metal.
It's definitely better than their last album, there's no doubt about that. But this album is way too long and there's a few songs that shouldn't be on there due to being plain boring. Marten has some pretty powerful harsh vocals and his guitar work is generally pretty solid, but the symphonic elements are a bit bland in comparison to be honest. Nonetheless, it's not bad, but it's less decent than I thought it would be.
Yeah, I think the bad mixing is because of the Loudness. This album is ridiculously loud, and usually a lot of modern album wind up with really crap mixing so it can be made louder. They get compressed and clipped like mad, and I think that's what's happened here.
Nah, you are right, it seems to be a Loudness War victim. I though that was a term you came up with or something less "official", but I read about it (pretty interesting read) and it's actually a thing And there are the screenshots for the evidence, it's really sad... I guess it's the same thing that happened with Death Magnetic.
It's not uncommon that the original mixing was good, then the record label wanted it to sound louder and did a second mixing to make the record "pop" more.
The results are often the complete opposite - especially on high-end speakers.
Just as good as I expected, much better than Enigma, and finally some new elements, not just the usual clichés. There are some fillers like Cold Caress, Stille Kom Døden (12:42 of boredom) and Profound Scars, but overall I enjoyed the album.
Seven Widows Weep and Ditt Endelikt (who is the guy singing here?) are the highlights imo.
After track 4 this album becomes extremely generic and formulaic. I actually prefer TEOL (which I thought was a decent album) to this, so I guess I am just in the minority.
After that horrible 4th track with those god-awful clean vocals you mean?
Ditt Endelikt (who is the guy singing here?) are the highlights imo.
Wait, what?! For me that song was so horrible due to the male clean vocals I couldn't even finish listening to it and thus skipped it.
I think Ailyn's vocals are not great but I still have no problems with them, although they are definitely too poppy sometimes. It seems I'm more easily satisfied when it comes to female clean vocals than to male clean vocals... I'm actually pretty damn sure this is the case. Hell, I even love Galadriel's vocals while many seem to hate those. And Morten's growls are great as always, which actually goes without saying.

Hehe, the guy is not the best, but I still liked his performance. Was a nice change from the usual vocals (clean female, harsh male) on the album (just like Sirens Of The Seven Seas from the previous album). I'm surprised you liked the female vocals on Galadriel, imo they are one of the worst in the genre
Then you probably haven't heard the first two albums. If you have, then
well I have heard the first two albums but I don't know I enjoy this one more but to tell you the truth after I listened to Leaves' Eyes new album yesterday and then I listened to this album of Sirenia, man I couldn't even listen for one minute, I realized that Sirenia's album is shit compared to leaves' eyes's.

Hehe, our tastes differ greatly so I'm not very surprised you like those vocals.
As I said I'm pretty easily satisfied when it comes to female vocals in beauty and the beast metal. And for me Galadriel's vocals fit the music perfectly... they don't sound poppy at all, and pretty unique too, as well as quite ethereal. I just love them, put simply. For example in this brillant song (and most other songs on that album as well):
Keep in mind this is symphonic doom metal though. Hell, since it's symphonic you might even like it.

Yes, I just discovered the band and quite like this album/song, even the bad vocals can't ruin it

Haha, I'm glad you like it. I know the vocals in itself aren't that great, but as I said they just fit the music very well, at least in my opinion. Great album in any case.
This album is so awful, specially after listening to At Sixes And Sevens.
What the fucking fuck is the point of being worse over time?, it's for fun or something?
Morten was one hell of musician in Tristania and first-time Sirenia, then he comes with this shit. Over-produced, digital, boring, without atmosphere, middle-of-the-road Ailyn (she hasn't completely get the Classical singing), and fucking crappy drums.
Morten seriously needs to stop the cool photo session with her Spanish slut and think of his previous works.
