Cynic - Sign To Season Of Mist

The news was announced a few days ago already, but here's the official word from Seasons Of Mist:

"Season of Mist is really proud to announce that a new cult band just joined the roster. Let's welcome legendary American progressive jazzy death metal band Cynic! Most of the label's team have been a fan of the band's milestone and so far only album, "Focus", so needless to say we at Season of Mist are all extremely excited about this new collaboration. Here's frontman Paul Masvidal's comment about the signing:

"We're pleased to be back in business with Season of Mist as our record company. They have tremendous enthusiasm and passion for our work. Our bottom line was a company that understood what Cynic does and believes in it 100%. We found that with SOM. We're deep in the pre-production album process now and will be headed into the studio in a couple weeks to dive even deeper and start the recordings with our talented friend Warren Riker at the engineering / mixing helm. The journey of writing this record has taken Reinert and I to new heights of exploration, straight into the heart of Cynic's soul. We're thrilled to be able to share this new work with the best fans in the world. Stay tuned."

The release of Cynic's sophomore album, which will be out on Season of Mist fifteen years after "Focus", is set to next autumn. In the meantime, you can check the band's new MySpace profile http://www.myspace.com/cyniconline, on which you can hear an excerpt of the demo to the brand new track "Integral Birth"!

Shaped around founding members Paul Masvidal and Sean Reinert, the new line-up sees the return of bass god Sean Malone and the addition of Dutch guitarist Tymon Kruidenier who will also be in charge of 'death' vocals. The band are set to enter the studio this summer with Grammy Award winning Warren Riker (Down, Santana, etc.) to begin work on their long-awaited follow-up to "Focus". The album will contain eight songs, and the band are working once again with renowned artist Venosa (who created the unmistakeable cover and visuals for "Focus"), and the new album will be preceded by additional live shows, including a special appearance at Wacken Open Air, Germany, on next August 1st."

Cynic - To Record New Album

American iconic death metal band CYNIC's MySpace has been updated with the following press release:

Quality technical metal connoisseurs and open-minded music-lovers in general will be delighted to hear that Florida's legendary Cynic have returned to creative power after a successful European reunion tour in the summer of 2007 and will soon be recording a new album, their second after 1993's genre-shattering Focus debut.

Cynic founding members Paul Masvidal (Guitars / Vocals) and Sean Reinert (Drums), who both gained reputation and praise while performing alongside Chuck Schuldiner and Death in the recording and touring line-up for the milestone album "Human", are currently in Sanford, Florida, working on the mix for three new demo tracks together with producer Jason Suecof at his own Audiohammer Studios. The three new tracks are entitled 'Integral Birth', 'Evolutionary Sleeper' and 'Adam's Murmur' but Masvidal and Reinert have already written a full album's worth of new material and the band will use the demo to begin talks with record companies about a 2008 release.

Masvidal comments, "We're amazed that we're here again, and that is a testament to the unpredictable beauty of the creative process. We received so much inspiration during last summer's reunion tour that a flood of new material has since poured out of us. There must be a default metal root in us from childhood that insists on being watered and loved, so we're just trying to keep up with ourselves ? the Cynic sirens are screaming inside and won't let up! Our policy has always been about surrendering to what feels most organic and staying in the flow. To put it mildly, this last year has been a creatively abundant and productive period. We're intoxicated about now and the future."

More news on Cynic's recording and touring plans will soon be announced, and a new website will soon be launched at their official website.

Cynic - Announce New Touring Guitarist

The reunited Cyinc, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal, has announced the addition of Los Angeles native, multi-instrumentalist David "Mavis" Senescu, as the touring guitar player for the band's upcoming shows.

Cynic's Paul Masvidal (guitar, vocals) first met Mavis while touring as a member of Death in support of the classic "Human" album. Paul states, "I gave Mavis my last Cynic demo at a Whisky show in L.A. The fact that I gave him my last demo copy on tour with Death means there was a connection for me and fully explains why we're working with him now. I must have known on some level. Mavis is precise and focused, which is exactly what Cyinc needs."

Mavis is the son of legendary jazz trumpeter Bob Senescu, who was a touring member of the Buddy Rich Big Band. He has also toured with the Beach Boys, among others. He was raised listening to Los Angeles' finest studio musicians at work.

Cynic recently abandoned plans to utilize the services of Aghora's Santiago Dobles for its upcoming tour. According to the band, "due to the commitment required for the reunion, it was mutually agreed that another guitar player would be better suited." The rest of the group's lineup will consist of Masvidal, Reinert, Tony Teegarden (vocals, keyboards) and Chris Kringel (bass).

Kringel, who replaces Sean Malone (who can't participate in the reunion because of teaching and work commitments) in Cynic's reunion lineup, has been involved with the band since the pre-"Focus" days and toured with the band in Europe in support of the CD. He also played bass on the classic and much-sought-after Portal demos and toured the U.K. with Paul and Sean's Aeon Spoke project. Teegarden also previously toured with Cynic in support of "Focus".

According to Masvidal, guitarist Jason Gobel was approached about participating in the reunion, but was forced to turn it down due to family and work commitments. However, he gave the rest of the group his blessings to proceed.

Cynic will embark on a three-week European tour beginning mid-June, which will include dates in U.K., Iceland, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Switzerland. So far the band has been confirmed for the Hellfest and Fury Fest in France, Hovefestivalen in Norway and Evolution Festival in Italy. More dates will be announced soon
