Anthrax, one of the "Big Four of Thrash", certainly deserves their own thread here on Metalstorm forums (as they have in the past). Definetly a great band worth discussing. If you are new to the band, I recommend you listen to "Among the Living" sometime.

I got pretty sad when I found out that Joey left because of money...again. Even their first vocalist, Neil Turbin, departed because of money issues. John Bush really sucks, and every Anthrax album he's been on has been a complete failure. I guess it's not his fault...

Anthrax isnt Anthrax without Joey. Although, John Bush said he would like to think of his time with the band as over, so thats great news as well, because he blew beyond words as Joey's replacement.

Brand new vocalist? Hopefully a high pitched one. This low shit doesnt doesnt suit Thrax.

Peopl keep on forgetting that first of ALL John Bush didn't have any input in the music side of ANthrax at all. So blaming Anthrax's crappiness on him is quite stupi. And btw SOund Of White Noise isa great album, much better than Persistence of Time and State of Euphoria. Okay it doesn't beat Spreading the Disease (Anthrax's best by far) and Among the Living and Fistful of Metal, but there is no denying that John Bush is technically far superior to both Turbin and Belladonna.

Probably Bush is better singer than Belladona and Turbin, but I like them more, I don't know why. Sound Of White Noise is very good album, I don't see why people don't like this release, as my college above said it is not better than Spreading The Deasease or Among The Living but it is among best albums, altough my favorite Anthrax album is State Of Euphoria, I listen to this album all the time for more than ten years, at least once a week, great release. Turbin was good singer but for me he is not for Anthrax his voice doesn't fit in Anthrax sound well.

How is Bush in any way superior to Belladonna, or to a lesser extent, Turbin? His range doesnt compete anywhere near Belladonnas, and he's boring to listen to. Any album that Scott Ian and Charlie Benante churned out with Bush, rightfully will remain in bargain bins and 3 dollar sales for eternity (including Sound of White Noise, which for record, does not hold a candle to Persistence of Time or State of Euphoria). That's blasphemizing dude, seriously.

His voice is much more powerful and suited to the music, for starters.

As was stated, it's not like Bush had a huge degree of creative control - seems to me it's pretty much always been Scott and Charlie's gig writing the tunes and music. You can see the material start to change a bit on the album prior to Bush replacing Belladona - "Persistence of Time" lacks some of the lyrically 'lighter' songs that could be found on their previous albums. It's all serious right from the get-go.

Some tracks of "Sound of White Noise" blow me away - particularly 'Only' - the combo of music and vocals is really powerful on that song. Sadly, a lot of the other material was not up to par. And that wasn't the new guy's department.

Listening to John Bush sing is pretty pathetic. He has almost no range, and I prefer my thrash to have high vocals. It gives the music more energy. Every time I listen to Bush-era Anthrax I cringe at the rare occasion when he tries to hit a high note. He was good for Armored Saint back in the day though, so maybe his voice is going with age. The first Anthrax songs I heard were from the dreadful Bush era and I hated this band until I received their albums with Joey and their debut with the magnificent Neil Turbin.

I also want to point out how shitty their album they did with Bush singing classis Anthrax tunes....it's called something like The Greater of Two Evils. He butchered those songs very badly.

The only Anthrax album with Bush that I don't completely hate is Stomp 442. Yeah, it's fucking annoying at times, but it is very catchy and fun, and there are a few good tracks. I rarely listen to it and I still find some of the tunes going on in my head. The only Bush album I haven't heard is their newest. I've heard mixed reviews about and I really don't have much faith in it. How do you guys like it?

I have Sound of White Noise and I listened to it once in my car over a year ago and I thought it was horrible. I will definitely listen to it again though since you guys are saying good things about it. Oh, and I agree with the people who said that Persistance of Time is shit. I was so disappointed when I first heard it and I probably won't ever listen to it again. It's slow and very commercial-sounding.

Damn...I'm tired of bashing Anthrax because I fucking love their old stuff.

@Marcel- Just to clear things up, I don't know if you were referring to me with your post on top of the page, but I just want to mention that I know Bush has relatively no input on their music and I even mentioned that at the end of my post.

fuck this post keeps getting longer and longer cuz I cant stop editing...

No, I wasn't referring to you with that comment. It was for everyone in general, because somehow most people think that Bush did have input in the music, becaus epeople kept on saying that Anthrax's music with Bush was shittier than anything before.

Little fact, Metallica tried to get John Bush as a vocalist for a very long atime at the start of their career and even just before Master of Puppets because they wanted James to concentrate on his guitar playing and they loved John's vocals for Armored Saint, but John wanted to make it big with AS.

I prefer my thrash with gruffer vocals. I guess it was because I really despised all the high pitched singing in the glam movement at the time.

For that reason, I prefer Bush. And I even like his work on most of the tracks on "The Greater of Two Evils."

But I agree that State is the best album...

Bush has no voice at all he just shouts and jells all the songs that belladona SINGS...

I really like this band, but because of what they did with the rap scene I hate. I dont like rap being in metal. Now if its something like nu-metal or something, which has roots in that area of music somewhere its different. But for a rapper to be in metal is weird. Other then that I love the band.

i think that all of you are talking sh*t. Why blame john bush very fair to say that joey suited anthrax best , but just because you dont like the style of john bush is unfair. i personally dont like john bush but give the guy some credit , he did it in his own style which alot of people didnt like . think to yourselves what have you done have you done anything as big as what he did . as an example blaze bayley tried to be as bruce as he could when he joined maiden which went down like a bag of sh*t. if he had gone totally in his own style it might have sounded better. i think nobody has the right to slag john bush off when he tried to make it work and to try to fill belladonas shoes was almost impossible, but at least bush didnt leave because of being greedy.
in conclusion anyone who slags anyone off for trying to be themselves is a fu**ing dick

Anthrax is a band I have been getting into as of late. I knew who Scott Ian was, because he is all over VH1. But it kind of is an interesting story how I first got into their music: it was from a Christian praise and worship band.

WAIT! Did you just say Praise and Worship and Anthrax? WTF?

The Worship band at our college (this is group of musicians who lead worship each week during chapel) started playing "Safe Home". I had heard the song many times before, but there was something about this band playing it in that setting that really moved me. I fell in love with the song (it has since become a personal favorite of mine), and it has been used many times at our church services.

I have since gone out and bought several Anthrax albums, starting with "We Have Come For You All", and am really enjoying them.

Anthrax seem to have an obsession about being "political incorrect" among the metal ambient... I mean... which other legendary thrash band could present themselves on stage wearing shirts of Living Colour in the good old 80s and flirting with rap on the 90s... the only shit left for the 00s is to hire some guy from american idol...

Me too, I love their work. I always prefered them more than those bands. I got Fistful Of Metal in the same time I got Kille'Em All, Killing Is My Business and Show No Mercy. My older brother gave me those albums to listen. I remember I listen to Anthrax more than other bands, later he gave me more albums and I was amazed by their music. Only bands I loved more then were King Diamond, Manowar and Iron Maiden
Anyway, I think that they are underrated, people are spiting on them, at least here, because they worked hip hop songs, because they wear stupid t-shirts... I think that it is not reason to hate band...
