You've heard black metal albums beginning with spits, shrieks, growls and all sorts of sounds that the human mouth can make. Age Of Excuse kicks off with E.V.T. -the guitarist of Medico Peste who also performs live with Mgła- gnashing his teeth.

Really impressed with this one,the thing that grabbed me on the first listen was the intensity of vocals on VI, never heard something like this on a Mgła record.

Track #3 is a real treat. The album is typical Mgla, which means fantastic.

Good album, but sounds more like a compilation of B-sides from Exerices in Futility than a newest one.
That's a bit disappoiting, especially after waiting for 4 years.

Wow I have to check it up as soon as possible. Mgla is generally awesome, lets hope the new record is also worthy of the name.

I'm totally lost for words here... What an amazing album. Utterly enchanting...

P.S. I'm personally happy that are still fellow metal-heads on this site, and the absolute bummer of a non-metal album is no longer #1! Yes SOEN, I'm talking about you.

Damn, I just noticed the First Marshal of Poland, Józef Piłsudski, in the middle of the cover art

I could compare this one to the Gaerea's outstanding debut, although I find their overall sound even more compact and powerful. I mean, the production of drums on Unsettling Whispers is simply exquisite to my sense. Will have to give couple of more spins to this one to acquire concrete feedback.

Looking forward to see them live soon as well as Gaerea later this year.

Typical mugwah, so very good stuff. Just a bit disappointed that my favorite track was the previewed one, which made the full experience less impactful.

Incredibly consistent album. Amazing from the first till the last minute, it really is one of those albums where you press play on the first track and never feel the need of skipping forward. Exceptional artwork too.

"Solid" is a bit of an understatement for what Darkside does behind the drum kit, I think.

Soen is still kind of metal. I guess it's not tr00 and kvlt enough for you, but it's metal nonetheless.

Mgła is Mgła, always awesome.

People must be really missing the days of second wave black metal. While this band is very good for their genre they are not doing anything even remotely innovative. Some fresh riffs and melodies from time to time and that's about it. They aren't pushing the genre anywhere new at all, so I'm guessing all black metal fans on this site are fawning over it mostly because it captures the feeling of grimness in their heart that other bands haven't been able to do in a while.

Mgla had done it again!!! By far the best album I have heard this year, they just keep cranking out masterpieces!!!!! Now see this would have been something to have had to wait 13 years for unlike another album I shall not name loooools Glad to hear they are still one of the best modern black metal bands out there! Already can't wait for what they unleash on us next!!

Does music need to innoative to be good?

Not at all. I think the album is good. I guess i"m just butt hurt about the obnoxiously high score the album has received on the website, lol. It's just above average at best, imo.

You aren't saying anything controversial; you're describing exactly why they're so well-received. Some black metal fans just want their generic, straightforward, no frills black metal performed exceedingly well with a slight freshness to it, which is exactly what this band does.

Music is not all about progress, and progress itself is not even linear. They are not supposed to push anything. Most of the black metal fans are more conservative in terms of musical taste, so it is not a strange thing to see how well-received this album among them.
