As a Machine Head fan I'm one of those that think they never achieved anything as good as "Burn My Eyes" in their following releases. I don't mind Nu Metal and, honestly, "The Burning Red" was a very good move, in many aspects. I always admired a well conducted evolution, but "Supercharge" made me realize they couldn't take the alternative side any further, like if the previous work should had been an isolated experience.

I'm not exactly a huge machine head fan, but from what i've heard i believe this to be one of their better albums. Some of the songs take a while to actually hook the listener, and some riffs sound pretty much identical, but what MH's strongpoints are here are there ability to pen some ace tunes, as on 'Imperium' and closing 'Descend the Shades of Night'. They also have a good way of introducing melody into their sound on this album, which works well.

Personally this is my favorite Machine Head album. After this they started meandering into their "epic" style of thrash or whatever and that turned me off. But here the songs have focus even in their length.

Yeah I agree with you on that point. I believe Machine Head do actually work well with their longer songs, as their is more room for originality.

Very good album but again like the 1st album burn my eyes I think the songs get weaker as it goes along.

Best songs for me are the first 4:

Imperium
bite the bullet
Left unfinished
Elegy

This album changed all. Goodbye nu-metal and welcome to thrash metal.

But it isn't the best of that the era (2003 - 2014)
