Nearly every band's career goes like this: it starts with a good album, which is not very experimental, and then continues with an album which is more weird and progressive (and has better production). After that they either start making music that is inferior to the first two albums or start playing catchy and accessible stuff (some bands fail to do either). Morbid Angel belongs to the latter group, but this review will focus on their second and probably the best work (some say that Altars of Madness is better, but I disagree).

Apart from two very tedious tracks ('Fall from Grace' and the title track) i thought this album was brilliant. A great progression from altars of madness, and i thought the piano-led interludes worked really well!

Its all opinions of course but I cant fathom how you can think both Fall from Grace and Blessed are the sick are tedious, IMO they are two of the best songs on the record. Still though we both agree this album is awesome

Well, ive listened to this album countless times, and to me Fall from grace and Blessed are the sick just don't stand out at all-maybe because of the repetition of the riffs winding out into five minute songs. But yes the album is awesome\m/

Maybe I am just a fan of Morbid Angel when they play slow (which they do on both those songs) IMO that is when the band is at its best, It somehow sounds "Heavier" to me

This is the first Morbid Angel album I ever heard, and it's also my favourite. It has a wonderful atmospheric quality, as well as featuring classic death metal crushers like "Fall From Grace", "The Ancient Ones", and "Day Of Suffering". It's a bleak, yet beautiful album, and Morbid Angel's masterpiece in my eyes.

It's their best and most consistent album from front to back in my opinion. There's not a single bad song on it.

Most of the songs in the second half were written a few years before the rest of the songs in the first half were written.

While Altars took me longer to love, this album clicked with me after the first riff I listened to, still my favorite from them.

One of their best albums. Not as solid as Altars, but obviously far better than anything they have done after Covenant.

Very good album indeed, some great songs like "Abominations", "Thy Kingdom Come", "The Ancient One's" and "Fall From Grace", I wasn't too fond of the short instrumental intervals though, for me they disrupted the flow of album, otherwise for me it would of been as good as Altars Of Madness.

If you consider Morbid Angel, Death and Obituary to be the godfathers of old school death metal, I'd have to say Morbid Angel are my least favourite but Blessed Are the Sick was my introduction and it's between this and Altars for my favourite MA album.
