English doom masters Anathema released Judgement in 1999, following 1998's almost perfect Alternative 4. The challenge of that new album was huge as it was hard not to release a new Alternative 4, but still, without making something totally different. Once again, the Cavanagh brothers show us how to compose music with talent.

Pretty good album, but once again, as it was with "Alternative 4", some songs are awesome (especially, the title track) while others aren't exactly as great.

I agree completely. Both albums have some amazing and beautiful moments, while the majority of songs are somewhere between good and decent. Still like both albums a lot, though.

By far my favorite release from the band. The opener takes me in and the band never lets go. Such an awesome production.

This album is probably the best I've heard from Anathema so far. The atmosphere and soothing passages such as 'Anyone, Anywhere' make for a very relaxing sound. It's quiet, but not boring at the same time and engaging instead.

Extremely beautiful release, I'd say that this is my favorite album from this band. It's just brilliant.

A bit too high in rating and applaud considering anathema's previous two albums The Silent Enigma and Eternity are better than this.
Maybe it's so well regarded because of the 'lightness' of it?

Still deserves 4.5 stars since it's a great record. but people make it seem like it's the alpha and omega of Anathema's discography

The most sentimental and melancholic Anathema album.

But hey... for me it's like Alternative Rock/a litte bit Prog Rock instead of Doom Metal.

Super high rated album on here. I suppose I can't prove it's overrated and only to state what I find it is. It's good. Can it be said that it's more than good? - Maybe for a few moments, not for most of the songs, though. Overall I think it's not amazing; the songwriting is not great, the production sounds cheap and the length can be questioned as too long. I like it anyway, but not for frequent listenings. None of the songs sounds like a clear favourite,

Interesting. I find this to be among their better albums. Not their best though, as here on MS.
But their last truely excellent album (8.9).
Forgotten Hopes, Anyone anywhere, and the title track belong to my all-time favourites by the band (excellent songwriting).
All other songs are good at least, enjoyable, many not so spectacular though, and overall maybe a tad too many songs there, I agree.

well, no filler song, the album got a great flow. It's got great atmosphere, a lot of emotion. I've never grown tired of it, it's always great to get back to it.

It could be that I'm missing something, then. I'll recheck it later and maybe I'm able to get a different perspective on it.

Possibly not. I consider this album pretty easily accessible.
It maybe doesnt give you much. This is completely different from their Serenades and Silent Enigma days.
If you prefer their early years I would say you are entitled to dislike anything they have done thereafter.

Fantastic album, but I've always been confused why it's rated so highly. Don't get me wrong, I love the record, but I think The Silent Enigma, We're Here Because We're Here and Weather Systems are better.
