Well, they're definitely back. Forget the times of "34,788:Complete" and it's electronic influences, their trademark mood- obscure, heavy, but melodic- is back.
A step forward from "The light at the end of the world" but maybe also a step backwards (in positive), regaining their old sound which is closer to their previous masterpiece: "The Angel and the Dark River". I said previous masterpiece, yes because this album, six years later, is their NEW masterpiece.

I love this album, I like their albums which theyve released after this but none of them are comparable with this one.

Not quite their best, but the reworking of 'The return of the beautiful' is immense.

As I wait for the latest MDB album Im revisiting their latest works and this one is my 3rd fav. This is the true sequel to "the angel and dark river" with all songs creating a chilling atmosphere. The remake of the "return of to the beautiful" for me is the only time a band outdoes their own song twice.

Guess I would disagree... I like this album a lot but my favorite album is easily their debut so for me they haven't touched that grace since then. The production is far more suffocating and brutal on the debut. This version is immense though... just *a bit* less immense for me.

Definately one of their all time best releases. They've always had a great sound though.
