There has to be something that noone could ever reproach the guys of Queensrÿche, it's to overload their songs with badly-written riffs. Evidence can be this masterpiece from the beginning 90's, soberly entitled 'Empire'. Like on the previous release ('Operation: Mindcrime'), the same elements guarantee the artistic success of the band, like the wonderful vocals of Geoff Tate, the overly powerful beatings of Scott Rockenfield, and the subtle guitar playing of Chris De Garmo.

Rating: 8 This is the successful radio-friendly commercial release they deserved. The sound and production is perfect.

Rating: 8 I don't think it's as strong as Rage for Order, and especially Operation: Mindcrime, but overall, this is solid stuff.

Rating: 8 Whilst this is definitely Queensryche at their most commercial and radio friendly, the immense songwriting talent within the band ensured that this was still a mostly stellar work, quality wise. "Anybody Listening?" in particular, would actually have been a standout track had it been on the previous album. Definitely one of the most majestic songs in the band's catalogue.

Pretty fun to listen to, but i have yet to see why it is so praised though

Don't understand why this is so well liked. I've listened to it a few times and not been overly impressed with it.

Then again, I said that about Operation:mindcrime last year and I love it now, so it might just be this one hasn't sunk in yet.

Yeah, it might grow on you but I personally don't think it's in the same league as Operation: Mindcrime. This album is just too commercial-sounding and catchy i.e. a bit pop-ish. Still really good songwriting though.
