Swedish symphonic Thrash masters Therion have had a terrific run since their debut in 1990. From breathtaking live albums to stunning studio efforts, they have done it all. After 2004's double strike of Lemuria and Sirius B and 2006's DVD of the year Celebrators of Becoming, Therion's mastermind Christofer Johnsson comes back with a double-CD release entitled Gothic Kabbalah.

I've put off writing about this masterpiece for months. The thought of reviewing an album that I consider an absolute TEN frightened me, intimidated me, and simply put me off. This is the task of a writer creating something imperfect and partial about something predetermined as sublime. So, coming to the realization that creating a flawless synopsis is out of the question; I shall quote Tyler Durden- "I found freedom. Losing all hope was freedom."

An epic album in its own right. It has just as much brilliant musicianship as of their other albums in my view. Brilliant.

How would you compare Therion to Lacrimosa? I'm just getting into this whole goth metal/ symphonic metal/ industrial type genre (though it's pretty hard to classify either band as simply ONE sound). I'm not totally familiar with Therion but see they have some parallels to Lacrimosa.
Also, do you or anyone know of some good forums/blogs etc. on this kind of music, where like-minded fans can go? Any info would be much appreciated!
Rock on...

I didn't compare them to Lacrimosa at all, because i have never even heard anything by Lacrimosa. Now you mentioned them however, I wll check them out;)
The only other forums/blogs i use are sputnikmusic.com and rateyourmusic.com, but they are much wider in terms of music.
Rock on\m/

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the info!
Check Lacrimosa out, they're pretty neat. They're originally out of Germany (one guy and one girl- German and Finn) and they've run the musical gamut from (like I mentioned) symphonic metal, classical tones, industrial, and plain hard riffs.
There's some decent stuff here on Metal Storm about them. I would also suggest learning a little more on their official page- http://www.lacrimosa.ch/cms/front_content.php?changelang=2&idart=340
And as always, youtube is a nice introduction to any band's stuff!
Let me know what you think. Here in Canada it's a little "different"- for lack of a better term- and people aren't so easily persuaded to listen.
Talk soon!

Hey Rob,
Did you give Lacrimosa a listen yet? I'd love to know what you think of 'em! Thought they were fairly similar to Therion (as metalstorm suggested).
Have a good one!
