It's funny how I just knew this band is from Greece just by listening, I guess the Hellenic sound is just so recognizable. This has some good moments but overall didn't really grab me. Maybe it's the vocals which don't work for me.

I'm not particularly into Hellenic meloblack, but found myself digging this a lot more than most recent albums from there, certainly more than Drakon Ho Megas

This is a very good melodic Hellenic release, it's highly energetic and melodic with powerfully epic symphonies. I'm not massively keen on the vocals I admit but the instrumentation is really impressive, and the melodic riffing works especially well in combination with the symphonies.

Other than the vocals the only other downside for me is the lack of stand-out riffs, they tend to be repeated most of the time, and don't sound too different from one track to the next, but then the guitar work is completely overshadowed by the brilliant symphonic side of things. The last two tracks stand out for me most, I'm getting very strong Rotting Christ - Theogonia vibes from those tracks.

I originally rated "Evil Summons Evil" at 9 but today (after giving it another spin) I've changed my rating to 8 & I've decided to write my 2 cents about it. Bear in mind that despite this downgrade i still think this is a cool release worthy of your time & of my collection. 😀 Deviser produced a very melodic kind of black metal. Lyrics are simple, repetitive & a bit mediocre. I feel there is a place for improvement especially in that aspect. Vocals sound a bit unusual and strange but they do fit in okay into style they play I guess. It is a worthy listen & a bit underrated in my opinion.

Deviser is a cult hellenic band with a cool discography to check out. The band can also boast of their long & rich history. "Evil Summons Evil" is a piece that fits in well into jigsaw they've built. Check it out. 8.5/10.
