After a (too) long 6 year wait new album is finally out and it delivers! It`s a fun, content packed modern metal 35 minute listen. ``Mother`` is a heavier release in comparison to their last 3 outputs. There are less clean vocals and this is not a downside for me since Lukas is definetly not my favourite singer out there. He is a solid singer and all but his cleans do sound commercial. Best Veil of Maya release since ``Eclipse``. I`ve been following VoM for at least 12 years and even though I miss good old days with Brandon on vocals this is a solid 8 star release.

It's well performed and generally well made, it's chuggingly heavy, there's breakdowns galore, and well, typical djenty deathcore. I can understand the appeal for it, but it's not a genre I'm usually into. Occasionally I will come across an album of this kind that does something for me, but this doesn't quite happen here unfortunately, some of the riffs are pretty cool but I'm not a fan of his clean vocals.

I've not really kept tabs on Veil Of Maya since [id] - if this is how they've developed in the interim, I probably should keep it that way; it's like B/C-rate Periphery with occasional deathcore bits
