Attention for this new Baroness album has unsurprisingly been directed towards the band’s departure from using colours as album titles; however, the artwork for Stone, which features every colour that’s appeared on a Baroness cover, indicates that this new release, while perhaps breaking new ground, also recalls the various phases of the band’s career to date.

I guess they ran out of colors. Time to start with natural elements

Looking at the multiple colors in the cover and knowing that stones can have different colors, I guess they just felt it was a safer name than "rainbow". Perhaps it's an indication that this album will have songs inspired from their whole career and the sound on each album? Maybe I'm just overthinking this and they were just stoned when they named it and dropped D, because you know, drop D is very metal.

I found the single quite painful to listen to, to be honest.

In what sense? I quite like it.

I really enjoyed the last album and this song sounds good to me, so I'm looking forward to this album release later this year. Weird side note but their last album is what I always play whenever I'm making pancakes for my family on a Sunday morning and I have no idea why that is the case, I just did it once and then have repeated it ever since.

I'll try to explain as best I can, but it's hard to pin down for me. I hope some of this makes sense:

The production makes everything sound rather far away and unconnected to me. The tone and production of the guitar solo sound like it was recorded in a completely different universe than the rest of the instruments. A shame because the solo is quite good and the other instruments individually sound nice.

Those are comparatively minor gripes; my main complaint is the vocals. I don't particularly like describing vocals as whiny but I just can't find better words to describe my annoyances here. A failing on my part, admittedly. It doesn't help that John keeps repeating the same vocal line ("I remember every last word") in the same manner often throughout the song. Every vocal part seems to have the same energy, which is a bit too much for me, I'd like some more variation and dynamics in vocal delivery.
I feel like the vocals are going for an emotional and intimate delivery. But then they should have a more intimate sound, maybe it would come across differently to me, but now it sounds distant and whiny at the same time.

That's taking a much out of just a "song". Let's wait for the whole thing to drop to see where it surprises us.

I felt a bit of a post-metal vibe in 'Last Word', which is pleasant. I'm not sure about that solo at the middle of the track.
But as a wiser man than myself said earlier:

Definitely agree with this, although I can't quite decide if I like the approach or not. Solo sounds more 'live' than everything else - sticks out for sure.

Also fair.

That's taking a much out of just a "song".

Disagree on this, especially when talking production as that's likely to be the same across the whole record. But absolutely want to hear the album all the way through before making a final judgement.

They definitely bring back the sludgy riffs in this one! Digging the slightly more aggressive chugging and simple, more concise Riffage. Definitely still some killer solos sprinkled around.

I actually find this release rather dull and tedious to get through tbh. No tracks really stand-out for me and I would definitely have liked to of heard more heavier sludge sections.

After really letting it sink in with 3 spins I ADORE this album! It feels like a classic Baroness album and brand new territory at the same time. One of my favorites of the year for sure!!

Overall it's way better than it's precesor. The mixing doesn't suck, and that by itself it's a big improvement. I enjoy It quiet a lot. Right now it's a 9 for me, Will See in the future If It changes.

This is self parody at this point.
Magnolia is the only decent(ish) song in here, the rest is really bad.
And this is coming from a guy who liked Yellow & Green back in the day.
