The Best Djent / Math Metal Album Of 2023

After the relatively muted response to the positively bitesize Sonder in 2018, TesseracT have pulled out all the stops this time around; new record War Of Being is accompanied by not just a video game based on the album’s concept, but there’s apparently also a novel in the works. As someone who’s had a complicated history with TesseracT, a landmark release such as this provides as good an opportunity as any to re-assess the group.

Both these singles are outstanding so far. If the rest of the album lives up to them we’re in for a treat.

Listened through 3 times already. They were very inspired when creating this album. The production is wonderful. Vocals are the best they've ever been for this band. There isn't a bad song here. Probably my AOTY but I recognize I'm biased.

Really blown away by the performance on this album. Every member seems to be at the top of their game. Tomkins vocals are the highlight for me though, his range and control is out of this world.

This has everything I hate about metalcore. No djent or math elements to be found whatsoever. Absolutely unlistenable, I don't know what everyone else is on about.

Really ambitious album and I think it works wonderfully. I'm just a sucker for the atmospheres they create.

I'll admit the djenty math genres aren't my usual go-to music styles, but I find this pretty decent, although there's still a hell of a lot to take in all at once, especially for someone not well accustomed to math or djent.

His vocal range is especially great, but the songwriting is also pretty good for the majority, the lyrics are decent, the instrumentation isn't overly complex, and there's plenty of variety.

Glad to see you enjoyed it, man. 7 is a pretty solid score for someone who isn't into this stuff much. Personally I think it's higher but I get why you'd have it at 7. One of my favourite proggy albums of the year.

At first I wasn't too keen but allowed it chance to sink in as it's definitely one of those albums that needs a great deal of attention, and once it sinks in it's actually pretty good. It's certainly one of my highest rated Djent/math releases for some time, and so close to being an 8.

Love the plentiful usage of harsh vocals throughout the album, definitely heavier than the band's previous outputs which sounded very vanilla to me.
