People had already lost their interest on one of the most courageous bands in Death Metal history... Obituary, then 15 years later "Frozen In Time" came up and people again turned their heads while leaving towards the sunset, the band gave us something to praise about, something that made us sit and listen while waiting for something insanely spectacular to come; now it's "Xecutioner's Return" what sweeps us back to the old school days where Death Metal was fearless and utterly powerful, the record is everything we hoped since 1992 and I still can't believe my ears.

Definitely. And that album was hardly a classic either. Obituary's last great album was "World Demise" IMO.

I would go back even further to Cuase Of Death being their last greatest with The End Complete and World Demise just being enjoyable. But certainly as boring as anything after that.

Well, "Cause Of Death" is my favourite Obituary album. But I still love the following two albums. "Back From The Dead" was the first bad album they did imo. You'd struggle to make one great full length album from the amount of good songs (let alone albums!) from all the albums since "World Demise", so few have they been. Every album since that one has had maybe 1 or 2 stand out tracks, and the rest have been totally forgettable.

I dont know why you all people like "world demise". i find it awful COMPARING it with the 3 first obituary albums. the end complete is not as good as the 2 first but surely is better than world demise...

I agree The End Complete is better than World Demise but I still found World dmemise steps above the stuff after it.

you can say that everything after it is unoriginal etc. i'll agree if you say that. but i think that world demise is very problematic also in the songwriting...

Obituary was already unoirignal with Cause Of Death
My problem isn't the unoriginality with the stuff after World Demis but especially the songwriting. On the albums after they have even more nonesense and filler tracks.

"World Demise" was definitely, at least in my opinion, the last Obituary album that had a decent level of consistency as far as high quality of songs. lol Every album after it, contained maybe one or two good songs. "World Demise" had several, even if it was slightly patchy. I can see why some fans might find that album "problematic", but that isnt really in the songwriting, it's more to do with the fact that it's the only album they did that contained a degree of experimentation and unpredictability. Just my two pennece worth.
