Not my favorite WITTR album, but that doesn't say much I suppose. That said, this album has one of my favorite black metal album covers ever; it's so simple but majestic and evocative

Great album, Queen Of Borrowed Light is an awesome song. Yet I thought that the album is too long for its own good.

I agree, Queen Of Borrowed Light is a brilliant song. The others are still very good, with the last 5 minutes of the album being totally awesome. Though I don't really think the album is too long.

What kind of stupid, backwards logic is that. "I hated this album, it went on for way too long. Luckily my stereo had a stop button. I give this album 10/10." Genius.

Strange, because the band still sells the cd at their gigs for a normal price.

the WITTR website store doesn't have the cd or vinyl, and there's only vinyl at discogs all around the $100 nz price before before shipping.

I can't remember any of the record labels having it either, and nothing on bandcamp, haven't looked on ebay in a while though

No new CDs on the UK Amazon that I can see. Second hand ones start at £70. None being sold on eBay. Sounds like it needs a reissue.

All vinyl versions have been sold out for ages (both pressings by Southern Lord and the 3LP pressing by Van Records which includes a bonus song from their demo)

Thank God I have both the Van pressing and one of the Southern Lord ones on vinyl and also the cd.

Very, very enjoyable. The atmosphere is overwhelming and most important, is not that hard to digest, even if the album is one hour long.

As an album, I'd say this one is a tiny bit better. Really enjoyed their use of female vocals on this album.

BUT, Two Hunters has the best song and ending: I Will Lay Down My Bones Among The Rocks And Roots.

I'm not sure for what I would pick for favorite WITTR song, but as I said, I think this album way beyond better than Two Hunters.

I'm not sure for what I would pick for favorite WITTR song, but as I said, I think this album way beyond better than Two Hunters.

To me the difference in sound is marginal at best, same with songwriting. If anything, I'd say this one is slightly less mature in songwriting. not only because they borrow more from Weakling than what they did on later albums but also the transition of riffs is not as smooth. I'm not particularly satisfied with the transition into the riff on the last track on the 9:00 mark as the riff doesn't really match the rest of the song so it feels awkward and forced. This is even worse around the 14:50 mark. That "chugga-chugga" riff is completely out of place in the last song. Fortunately it only happens twice and it's a common thing among long tracks, specially if it's your debut.

WITTR live is still the best WITTR no matter what songs they play (although "I will lay down..." ruled extra hard.
