The middle of PT's transition from spaced out psychedelic rock, to a more progressive take on modern rock/metal. There are still faults on this album, but thankfully are not as noticeable as the band's first two albums. That said, 'Light mass prayers' and the two tracks running under two minutes' length bore the listener to death. Fortunately, these are almost hidden by the sheer brilliance of 'darkmatter' and 'intermediate jesus'.

This is one of those rare albums I can put on, no matter what mood I'm in, and it just takes me to another world, another time. Porcupine Tree are very good at that. This one is flawless from beginning to end.
