After marks the third solo release of the former Emperor front man. I think, as the saying goes, "the third time's the charm" is fitting here. Ihsahn's prior two solo efforts were cerebral affairs that at times seemed perhaps too heady and just didn't click. This one seems to have fallen into place quite nicely.

Rating: 8 A Grave Inverse is very nice.. I haven't listened to the whole album, but what I've understood so far is it's better than angL, at least for me..

Yes, for me too. Imo ''A Grave Inverse'' is the best song ever created by Ihsahn in this project.

I have listened to the whole album now, and it is a little better than I thought. ''The Barren Lands'' and the album title ''After'' are horrible, and kinda have ruined my good thoughts of Grave Inverse.

The other songs are pretty good thou, best Ihsahn work by far.

Rating: 8 Undercurrent is a classic
Daydream Nation - 26.01.2010 at 23:06
Rating: 10 A Grave Inversed and Undercurrent rock. This is my first experience with Ihsahn, but what a way to kick off 2010!
Clear Yakuza influence, though...

Rating: 10 Love it. Love it. Love it. Love it. Absolutely seamless front to back, and follows suit from the last album well without being a mindless repetition. Absolutely love it.
Got Mayhem? - 29.01.2010 at 03:05
Rating: 10 Much, much better than the other two solo releases. This is a very original, emotional work which left a smile on my face for a long time. An incredible way to kick off 2010 and will probably end up being one of the best albums of the year by far.
Valaskjalf - 29.01.2010 at 03:49
Rating: 9 Profound album....you really hear the Emperor coming through in some of the songs! Much heavier and that 8-string brings another dimension. Big step up from the first 2 albums....still getting my head wrapped around it so my rating might still go up, epic.
bodomroy - 29.01.2010 at 14:59
Rating: 8 Just one listening....... very good album!! on the shores sounds like pink floyd sometimes
Warman - 29.01.2010 at 15:22
Okay I never go after MS votes actually (except for some single users with taste here and there). But this looks really good and I loved "angL". Might pick this one up next week.
Dangerboner - 01.02.2010 at 07:09
Rating: 8 I still need to listen to this more, but this is way better than his last two albums. I think he'll incorporate more singing from now on, which is fine with me since his growls haven't been good in years.

I hate the last song, but the rest went above my expectations.

Rating: 10 At first I was shocked, and then I was blowned away! Instant classic! Ihsahn delivers and delivers more. 10/10. Every singel song is a love love love!

Opeth1992 - 12.02.2010 at 05:02
Don't have it yet, but I heard some of the songs and it sounds really awesome and progressive. Very much akin to Strapping Young Lad and Devin Townsend's solo work. Can't wait to get a hold of this.
X_grinder_X - 12.02.2010 at 20:53
Rating: 9 Really good, Ihsahn never ends.

BitterCOld - 15.02.2010 at 18:32
Rating: 8 Surprisingly good. i picked it up this weekend based on all the drooling and furious masturbating in this thread.

it's not going to crack my top 10 or anything, but it is a really good album.
Arhippigo - 17.02.2010 at 19:18
Rating: 10 Best album released so far this year. That saxophone is simply brilliant.
Clint W. - 26.02.2010 at 20:42
I'm really wishing that he didn't use his harsh vocals. Or at least, get someone else to do them. I think his clean vocals work quite well in the passages I've heard. Not to mention, I quite enjoy the instrumentals. Progressive in the vein of Winds (Norway). I don't know about the sax, but hey, it's kind of '70s right?

It sounds pretty good. Nothing I'd probably buy, but good nonetheless. I just can't enjoy his harsh vocals though. They seem out of place. If he'd just team up with Garm or Marco Hietala or Simen Hestnæs...
paulo figueiredo - 27.02.2010 at 18:35
Rating: 8 Ihsahn best post-Emperor album so far.
devosion - 01.03.2010 at 07:20
Rating: 9 This album takes awhile to get into, but it's the best of Ihsahn's solo work yet. The inclusion of screeching saxophones work well with the heavy black metal riffs. My favorite surprise of 2010 yet.
dant3x - 23.03.2010 at 13:51
Rating: 6 Perfect performance, but angL was way better imo.
Valaskjalf - 29.03.2010 at 04:53
Rating: 9 Excellent album....man that sax is freekin sexy. Best of the trilogy by a long shot.

Does anyone know where I can find the lyrics?
The booklet contains nothing but images and Google, for the first time, has let me down

Rating: 9 "UnderCurrent" is my favorite song...wow ..what a build up!

Along with Barren Earth's debut, this is a choice for album of the year!
