My previous review was about a group called A Dream Of Poe. Now I encountered an album called just Poe. The band is called Opera Magna (meaning "big work") and they're from Spain. I was expecting this album with a Salvador-Dali-esque artwork to be another melancholic doom project, after all, what do you expect from a band who uses Poe as source of inspiration: sadness, ravens, angst, sighs and whimpers in the twilight air.

I found this band by accident searching for Poe-related things, it's was metal so I did what I always do when I find new metal, take a listen.

All songs are named after stories I have read before. My hopes wasn't too high, so I was not prepared for what I heard: Really powerful voices, incredible symphonic arrangements, ominous choruses, nice riffs, great solos, and really profound lyrics that gave a new feeling to the classic Poe's tales.

All songs listed in this album are incredible, and if you already know the stories in what they are based, it's even better (it's not necessary though). This one enters without doubt in the list of my favorites albums of all time.

Give it a try!
