I am really impressed after the first listen , I like how the riffs flow towards each other and I really enjoy the Agalloch-inspired cleans
Edit : By cleans I mean the vocals

Best album of the year so far. I was really upset when Austere broke up. WoD new album is like perfect remedy. Track November is a masterpiece just because it is still atmospheric black metal but it seems to be anti-suicidal one.

Fuck, this is gorgeous!! Reminds me a bit of Alcest concerning the melodies (indeed very dreamy), and those screaming vocals simply tear my heart (beyond reason of course).

Ya this is an excellent mix of atmo-black and shoegaze, but it isn't as "dreaming of a mystical world" as Alcest (and I don't mean that as an attack on Neige).

Pleasently surprised by this. Had really low expectations since I didn't know anything of this band or its members. I guess I've been under a rock for a while... It's a very special kind of beauty, far from being of the likes of Alcest. I can'ät fully describe the beauty of this atmosphere specially in songs like "Somehow...". Amazing vocals as well...

Pretty solid, but not mindblowing to me. The atmosphere is indeed beautiful, however.

"For those that were hoping WoD would now be viewed as an "Austere continuation", you may be disappointed to know that should there ever be another WoD album made, Tim/Sorrow will most likely not be involved. The only confirmed part of the line-up will continue to be D. - guitars/bass, time will tell who takes the other positions on the next release, if in fact there is another one." From their facebook page.
Fuck sakes, thats some shitty news.

Can't stand most black metal at the best of times... yet why is this so irresistible?

Throw Alcest and Drudkh into the mix and this is what will emerge. Slightly repetitive, but definitely a good album.

Why is this not in the TOP OF 2011? 54 votes, so I guess that's enough, no? 8.5, so I guess that's more than enough, no?
Not that I really care, though. Just curious. Once it's up there, it'll gain attention and probably get knocked down by the "1"-rating "people".

Simply one of the best black metal albums I ever heard. The atmosphere is very crushing, and that's how I like my BM!

True.
I just always figured it went automatic. But I guess some staff member must notice before it goes in the list then. But yeah, whatever.
I'm on my 10th or so listen now, and it just keeps on getting more and more beautiful.

Glad to hear you like it as much as you do, but for the record, invisible bands don't appear on the charts.

I am really pleased to announce that this music literally paints woods of desolation spaces and vocals sound like one is torn beyond reason. This music is true.

I found this album to be a real solid piece of work. I like the depressive side of it while still not being completely without melody. The only flaws that I could find were that some of the tracks felt slightly too repetitive and that the clean vocals were too "buried" in the mix.
The minor issues aside, Torn Beyond Reason is a really good album that I will most ceratainly continue to lose myself into.
