I don't know what happened to this band in particular, they never were that good neither though, but they used to be decent that's for sure (for example their album "Whoracle", which I sold for regrettable reasons), and now they became almost Metalcore. And before you all "In Flames" fanatics start spitting in my face let me explain a little more; Metalcore is a form of Melodic Death Metal which was created for Hardcore fans that wanted their genre to be more aggressive, so more o less is what In Flames stands for now, just with some complex guitar solos.

This album is just a matter of perspective. You could look at it like 'This is absolute garbage.' OR you can look at it like 'Proud of In Flames for changing their style, it takes guts, even though this wasn't my favorite album of theirs.' BUT it is all a matter of perspective and taste.

this sounds absolutely nothing like Dark Tranquility. It isn't fit to lick the toes if the weakest DT album either. It's a thoroughly God-awful album from beginning to end irrespective of the band's history.

Probably you have not listened enough of Scanadivian Metal or did not know what the hell they were doing when you were listening. You got to work harder !

Says the person that just gave one if the most superficial and incorrect descriptions of metalcore I've ever seen who clearly thinks all metalcore is KSE clones

I don't know how old you are but I suspect I was listening to In Flames and Dark Tranquility before you were even a teenager. But please, carry on making baseless personal remarks as a way of qualifying your bad analyses.

Indeed. And besides, we have both already correctly identified STtYE as In Flames' underrated record

this one really sounds nothing like any Dark tranquillity album whatsoever.
Come Clarity clearly is quite metalcore and has nothing to do with melodic death metal or Gothenburg metal any more.

And yes I have been floowing both Dark tranquillity and In Flames right from their demo days.

Their only album that deserves to be called underrated tbh... All the others have been judged quite accurately. Well, I don't like Clayman as much as the average fella but I do understand why people love it.

Only a few years ago, I didn't like metal too much. The only stuff I really knew were Metallica (duh), Sabaton, Nightwish, and Behemoth's latest album. When electronic music went downhill real fast, I tried to jump ship to metal. I knew of "Self vs Self", the Pendulum and In Flames collab (which is surprisingly good), so I looked up In Flames on Youtube. The Mirror's Truth was the first result, decided it was decent enough, and took the plunge to Come Clarity. The opening melody of Crawl Through Knives caught my attention, and by that second scream everything clicked for me in metal.

Because this is the album that got me into metal, it is impossible for me to hate it due to nostalgia goggles. But even trying to push it aside, it's a kick-ass metalcore album that is a bit hit-and-miss, but reverts the poor choices in StYE and takes it the complete opposite direction. Once again, however, my 10 is due to my personal enjoyment.

This is not metalcore, it just superficially resembles melodic metalcore. It's really just a more raw and aggressive strain of modern melodeath ala Scar Symmetry or Soilwork. The closest it gets is "Take This Life", at least that song has a breakdown, but it doesn't even sound like metalcore breakdown, more like a thrash metal one. Maybe it has a bit of metalcore influence, but it's still not metalcore.

I don't care about what most educated fellas think about this album but for me this is emotionally attached. Before listening to it, 'metal' was just fab 4 to me. After listening to I Flames only I started researching on other genres of metal other than heavy, progressive and death and soon came to know about Dark Tranquillity, Amon Amarth, Amorphis, Insomnium, Draconian, et al.
And few months later I watched In Flames Live @ Dubai. So guys, my rating is personal and I don't give a ssss what other think about it.
