After helping to kickstart the metalcore movement, for better or worse, You Come Before You is where Poison The Well transcended the genre through new songwriting choices and implementation of more eclectic instrumentation. Songs schizophrenically jump styles from indie rock, to punk, to hardcore; but without ever losing the metal edge that keeps me head-banging, mouthing the words, and pantomiming stereotypical frontman stances. The album is even produced by Pelle Henricsson and Eskil Lövström, who were instrumental in recording '90s hardcore acts like Refused.

Rating: 10 I'm sad to see a bunch of closed-minded idiots downvoted this. Definitely one of the best Post-Hardcore/Metalcore albums ever conceived, alongside Converge's 'Jane Doe'. It's very easy to blow it off as some emo garbage, but it really is a fantastic album.

I know you wrote this years ago, but it makes me happy. Arguably their best album and one of my favorites of all time.

They're touring with Code Orange now, I remember listening to this years ago. I should check it out again.

I still love the shit out of that album. Crystal Lake is arguably one of the heaviest tracks I've ever heard. Period.

You're not kidding. That and Ghostchant's kick-in-the-door opening to the album? Forget about it. I ended up writing a full review for this. It's pending in "approve-me!" hell.
