Suffocation; one of the names in death metal. So recognisable by their blastbeats alone, the band helped shape extreme metal we have today. A decade ago the band were reforming after their temporary split, and in 2006 reached their modern pinnacle with their fantastic self titled album. The lacklustre Blood Oath following up unfortunately fell far short of expectation, leaving an awkward four year gap between itself and our new Suffocation album Pinnacle Of Bedlam.

After last album, I'm going to just wait to see what the reviews are like before listening.

Yeah "Blood Oath" wasn't that good, but anyway don't count on reviews..I'm just sayin.

Rating: 5 If every song is as good as "As Grace Descends," then this'll probably shape up to be my favorite album of theirs.

Don't ever look to your peers for their opinions... Chances are they are assholes with shitty opinions. You should listen to a record and form your own opinion of it. If you hate it, you hate it - if you love it, you love it. Simple as that.

I wait patiently for the new record to drop, however

First impressions of this - Suffocation really upped their game!

EDIT: Yes, wow.

I've heard the first single from the album and it's reasonable. I have high hopes for the record as a whole.

Rating: 9 Great stuff. My expectations have been exceeded.

Probably going to buy this regardless of whether its mediocre since I want to hear Beginning Of Sorrow in good quality. All of the Breeding The Spawn songs that have been re-recorded have been superb, shame it was not great to hear the first time.
MechanisT - 18.02.2013 at 17:41
Rating: 8 Pretty "straightforward" by Suffocation standards. While I do enjoy a modern, technical/brutal death sound like this one, I'll still favor their older albums. It's weird for me; if I didn't know Suffocation I would probably enjoy it more.
"As Grace Descends" was pretty neat.

I was expecting to like it, at least a bit, but after listening to it, I can't remember anything : (

I'm usually like that in fairness with Suffocation, and I'm a fairly big fan of theirs. I don't know why, but it usually takes two playthroughs minimum for *anything* to get through my skull. After that though, those riffs stick in my head from dusk til' dawn.

Rating: 8 Pretty solid album, and for me their best since the mid-90's.
Dethking26 - 28.02.2013 at 02:32
Rating: 7 Not a bad album by any means, but the only memorable songs for me are As Grace Descends and Beginning of Sorrow.

'Beginning of Sorrow' is from the Breeding The Spawn album. It goes to show how great that album was, if one of its songs is preferred over this new material.
