Some of the songs here are just way too long for their own good. Cut this album in half and you've probably got one of the most intense black metal releases of the year, as its melting pot of black/death/thrash is an extremely satisfying concoction. It assaults you like a savage on the battlefield but lacks the killer instinct to get the job done and ultimately fails in its attempt to choke you out. Instead, you can easily break its fingers and stab it in the neck with a knife...
Personally I prefer music to kick my ass - not the other way around.
