Wicked. Get it. Now! Those 4 words alone would be sufficient to describe my thoughts on 'Monumension'. Enslaved have always blown me out of the water, and after their excellent previous effort ' Mardraum', I thought they had reached their peak and maturity and would either repeat themselves or just fade away after that. How wrong I was. Enslaved have definitely progressed with their work, and seem more confident than ever. Also, most of the lyrics on the album are in English, which is something new for Enslaved, not that it ever took away from them at all. They are also a band that is damn near impossible to categorize as well. Black, extreme, doom, viking, death and thrash, it's all there and it's all good. Some people (even the guys from official website) have hinted that some of this CD is psychedelic at times, which is understandable but doesn't let it sway you. This is as heavy as hell. The vibe this album creates is also worth a mention. Many bands attempt to create an atmosphere that lasts throughout the album's duration and quiet often fall short, only managing to make a feeling for some parts. Enslaved not only achieve a full length feeling, but extend it to the point were you walk away from this album with its sounds still bouncing around inside your head, telling you to go back for more. Dark guitar passages, intriguing bass-lines, ethereal keys! All help to create a truly magnificent atmosphere. An enjoyable album worthy of being added to anyone's collection. For those not familiar with Enslaved, check them out, then put this one on the top of your list of CDs to buy!

Rating: 8 One year after the first attempts and this album still do not impress me, although this time the journey was a bit better. It all just seems too much... ''random'' or so.. even for a progressive work.

''Convey to Nothingness'', ''Hollow Inside'' and the weird noisy ''Outro'' are my favorite tracks. The riffing of ''Cromlech Gate'' is excellent, but my attention is dispersed through the song.. =/

This is a weird album, but "The Voices" is such a cool track!

Rating: 9 Their most underrated album. It is really bloody weird but it works so well because of it.

Rating: 9 A very experimental album compared to their previous releases, but it still had those black metal tendencies...

Rating: 8 I only like the first part, 5 first track...

Rating: 9 Weird? I don't really get that.
It's prog with bits of black metal. Particularly on The Sleep.
