It's such a fantastic year for blackened DM...

This little beast, stuff created by Antediluvian and Abyssal are the highlights of the year for me.

This is basically, judging from 2 songs I heard, early 90's Scandinavian Death metal worship with murky and cavernous production. Which I like but I'm far from impressed. Is the whole album like this?

EDIT: And what is blackened about it? It's death metal, nothing more nothing less.

EDIT 2: It also smells very much like the first album by Vital Remains.

Nothing blackened about it. That would be like saying ALtars Of Madness and Blessed Ar The Sick are blackened.

Well, you love the new Autopsy and recent Asphyx, and this is infinitely better than those two so you should be way more impressed by this After all, you seem to hold "proper" death metal in high regard (and generally old fashioned music done well it seems), what's more proper than this? It just doesn't have a pedigree tag hovering above it.

Smells like it, but different riffing and flow, and far more doom death influenced to my ears.

Precisely! I did, after all, say that I like it. So I see no problem

Again, precisely! The difference between the originals and copycats. No matter how good they are. Which they are, so don't bash me for disliking them, because I do like them

EDIT: I ranked the album to settle your mind

If anything, an original not doing something as well as a "copycat" just shows the unnecessary praise originals get for doing something just "ok." People are far too into pedigrees and big names and give them too much credit just for their history.

It's extremely unsettling for me to have to agree with you for the 3rd time in the same thread

There is a flip side to this coin too though. Let me paraphrase your words: people are far too into new names and into seeing them as better than old names, most of the time only because the new bands sound a tad different. Which is exactly the case with Grave Miasma. No matter how much I enjoy the band, which I do, they ARE extremely similar to some bands from 20 years ago.

But hey, it's like trousers. When they are out of season, keep wearing them. Eventually they will be in vogue again

Shit man. All you do is just plop out nuggets of truth like a chicken does eggs. And trust me I have chickens I would know.

It's safe to say that I did not give this album the attention it deserves last year.
