Fault-finders rarely have a hard time in finding critics to move against Rhapsody Of Fire, but it would be audacious to say that the band avoided exploring new musical directions. From 1997's Legendary Tales on, they never released an album like the previous one, always progressing, always searching for new paths to follow, arriving at their verge of experimentation with 2011's controversial From Chaos To Eternity, then?

IMHO the signature of the band is the ORCHESTATION stuff.

I think it's really cool how differently people view this band. Some like it because of Fabio, some for Luca, some for the choirs and orchestrations, and some for the concepts. I have a buddy who really enjoys it mostly for Luca's playing, so naturally, he was crazy about Ascending To Infinity. I did like that album too, but I am also one of those who like it because of Fabio. He's always been the main point for me. It's of course since I am a vocalist myself, so naturally, I'm gonna be really geeky about dem vocals.

Alright. I listened through the album last night for the first time. I really liked it for what it was. It isn't Rhapsody as it was before, but it still is, if that makes any sense. I would say that they have enough of their standard moments, but they're also making it a little more "simple" this time. The album isn't their most "epic" album, but that is not a bad thing for me. I think we have plenty of epic ROF records already, and it's cool to add something new to their catalog with this album. Although, one thing that is pretty epic with this album are the choirs. Damn, that is some good choirs!

Half way through it and sounds pretty lazy. Where's the energy this band once had ? The longest tracks here are the most boring ones, and I'ld expect to be the epic ones.

Edit: Just finished it ant it didn't get any better, sadly.

If they put forward the tracks after the 6th, and condense this album without 3 tracks like My Sacrifice, the quality of this work is still as good as before. The first tracks seemed more like progressive than power, and the guitar is weakened. Maybe because this album is just the "sad and dark" start of an epic series. The melody and symphonic parts are still incredibly awesome!!! Just a little bit focused too much on the theme. Some guys complaint the Rhapsody was too perfect to be joyful, now neither 2 rhapsodys can take the place of THAT ONE.What a pity the cooperation remained unlimited potential if the 2 gods wouldn't settle on the medieval saga!! Oh, yes, Fabio is the third.

If they arrange the order of these tracks as below, the listener would get different feeling:

1. Vis Divina
2. Silver Lake of Tears
3. Fly to Crystal Skies
4. A Tale of Magic
5. Rising From Tragic Flames
6. Angel of Light
7. Dark Wings of Steel
8. Custode Di Pace
9. My Sacrifice (Bonus Track) b/4 "leave me alone", the melody is cool, but this track is too long!
10.Tears of Pain (Bonus Track)
11. Sad Mistyc Moon (Bonus Track) the two songs are not bad, but severely slow down the beat of this album.

Maybe the final of the world is really darkness, but science and melody can light the perspective!!!!

I was pretty disappointed with this album, but the more I listen to it, the better it gets. It's still the worst Rhapsody album ever released, but none of the songs are bad, they just aren't amazing and classic like so much of their other stuff. Silver Lake of Tears and Tale of Magic are the two highlights on this album, with all the other songs having really cool parts here and there, but just aren't consistently great songs.

Therapy?

Solid music as always, but lacking inspiration if you ask me. It's just not the energetic stuff I'd like to see. I was kind of hoping for more of a "Power of the Dragonflame" approach. 7 for now, but I will definitely give it a couple more spins.

By the way, what I also noticed (and I wonder if anyone else feels the same way) is that the choir vocals sound less... full? More hollow? Less room-filling maybe, hard to explain. But they don't sound as epic as usual for some reason.

If I had to choose, I think Luca did a more inspiring job with his latest effort.

I've not listened to them for ages. I see that (line-up aside) absolutely nothing has changed. Not even the kitschy "random epic word + of + another random epic word" titles. Pity.

Good point, I agree. Although I don't mind My Sacrifice all that much... but I do think that Dark Wings of Steel and Tears of Pain are definite filler tracks that ultimately disrupt the flow of the rest of the album.

Well, is a plain album in my opinion. But the new structure promises and in a new effort they should do better.

And also, is sad (at least for myself) that there is not anymore a story for the album. Another of the RoF signatures were their Enchanted Lands' Sagas (nothing original at all but still enjoyable).

Their weakest effort by far. The intro is clearly what you can expect from this album. Boring

Rhapsody of Fire without Luca apparently sound like a lackluster RoF copy-band. Theres no magic, no energy, no power, and this is supposed to be power metal right?

Well, after many listenings to this album I found it better than previously. It has many emotional moments (My Sacrifice is an underrated gem, for example, and Custode di Pace -including its language versions- is a great ballad).

Maybe the less nice moment goes with Angel of Light, Tears of Pain and Fly to Crystal Skies. Three tracks too similar in structure IMHO. Still nice songs.
