This is actually a good album. Leif Edling never seems to be out of ideas for good riffs. The singer is adept too.

Beautiful vocals, epic atmosphere, powerfully heavy rhythm section and a collection of extremely well-written songs. That's essentially what Avatarium's self-titled album is made up of, and then some. Seriously though, this really has impressed me time and again with near enough every single song. The title track is ambitious, 'Bird of prey' is enchanting and 'Pandora's egg' has some of the best solos in a Doom Metal album I've heard this year. The vocals are luscious, hypnotic and certainly never take away from the overall quality of the album, and together with brilliant instrumentation this whole album is near enough flawless. The only thing that I can think of disliking slightly is that some of the solos are less effective than others, but that's not saying much at all.

The prog-lover is into traditional doom like this? That's a pleasant surprise.

Great album. Even though the music isn't anything mind-blowing it's still solid doom and the (very good) female vocals make this a refreshing album for sure.

That makes two of us prog-lovers. I think you hit the nail on the head with the word refreshing; the vocals are exactly why I'm really digging this right now. I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for these guys.

An absolute favourite among the 2013 releases - Doom rules supreme in this one!!
After what seems like several hundred listenings, I must upgrade my vote - the relatively rare 10, I can't find anything that's not superb about this release. Except it's not long enough!!!!

First of all, even if I didn't know that Avatarium is a new project of Leif Edling, I would still recognize his unmistakable songwriting. Still, it's not like the other musicians didn't contribute - on the contrary, the vocals are charming, even if unusual for this kind of music, the guitar riffs are heavy as Hell itself and solos are enchanting, the drums are solid through and through and Carl Westholm did a good job with his keyboards, as usual, providing a proper ambiance and atmosphere.

This was a very very nice surprise!
I first listened to the EP "Moonrose", and that was simply perfect.
Then i bought this album, I'm not much into the doom scene, but this is really without flaws to me, I enjoy everything in it.

It's strange to me how popular this is. The music is solid but unspectacular, and then the vocals seem out of place... almost as if two styles are being forced together in spots, rather than complimenting each other the way they sometimes can when this sort of thing is executed better. Just as I'm about to be drawn in by the doom and atmosphere, in come these soft, bland vocals to sap all the energy and emotion out of the mood.

It's not a bad album at all.... But when I saw this was rated #2 overall for 2013 I couldn't figure out how.

If you listen to the whole thing at once it starts to get more and more predictable. I can't say I enjoyed the last 3 songs too much.

Birds Of Prey and Tides Of Telepathy are indeed the weakest of the album but I regard Lady In The Lamp as the strongest track.

Moonshourse is great song from lyrical, deep and poetic lyrics, you don't hear such songs today, seems band just write something.
Lady In a lamp is good song a bit ''ballad'' if we can say so
Boneflower is also great and strong song
Rest of songs are strong to
