I find Citadel to be a very special album. There is a sort of checklist you can go down when preparing to listen to this kind of modern extreme progressive metal, and Ne Obliviscaris basically hit everything on it... But they go a bit further than that.

Cool vote abuse, bro.

I am not abusing the vote. If I would I wouldn't put so much explanation about my vote.

Just because you're commenting doesn't change the fact your vote ratio is retarded. I suggest you read the latest article about vote abuse by Xnoybis.

Dawn of the 5th Era, which I'll agree is a great album, got a 10 from you, and it just so happened to have been 2nd place on the charts... right behind Citadel. You see how this looks fishy? I

Well, after all the Hype I've decided to give this a shot. And yeah, I really understand the fuzz. It's a really good piece of music and feels like a strong top10 to me.

I'm a sucker for teh violin, but those clean vocals are pretty atrocious. I also feel like each instrument is playing something interesting, but they are all just thrown together with little attention to overall composition. I think these guys shine the most in their more progressive instrumental interludes, like the guitar solo and strings around the 6 minute mark in Painters Part II. But then we are right back with "hear the childreeeen..." Vomit. This is the third time I have come back to these guys given the repeat exposure on various metal sites. Still not doing it for me, but not outright bad either. Enjoyability=6, Musicianship=7, Innovation=7.

Why is this so boring?

Why do so many people find it not boring is what I want to know.

It's because lots of metal folk seem to be into bloated "complex" musical wankery.
And the tears that we will weep today
Will all be washed away
By the tears that we will weep again tomorrow
