With 1998's 'Legacy Of Kings', Hammerfall brought absolutely nothing new to the large and intimidating table of Heavy Metal. Still, this is a great album and it deserves some respect. This is far from a master-work, mind you, but it is Hammerfall's best so far. If they could write another one like this again (the only other that came close after was Crimson Thunder, in my opinion) then I just might have to get back into this band.

Good power metal. Instruments are perfect but gave it a 9 because of the cheesy vocals. Grows with more listens.

This was the album that got me into metal. Today it is one of few power metal albums I still like.

Not generic at all specially for 1998. It's one of the albums that define how power metal should sound like and is a cornerstone of Swedish power metal. One of the best metal albums released and Hammerfall's best.

A huge step up from Glory to the brave in terms of songwriting. Hammerfall sure sounds generic nowadays, but back then it was surely influential. Dreamland and Heading the Call are kickass songs

This album launched them into a worldwide success and just as the debut it's easy to see why. It's not original in anyway but they were taking what others had done and made it easy appealing and fresh. The opening three tracks are a clean homerun, can put those on repeat for a whole day. After the three opening tracks it become a bit too familiar ground but At the End of the Rainbow (co-written with the singer of Stormwitch) and Warriors Of Faith (that thrash break in the middle, god damn!) are classic Hammerfall songs. Another good selection of covers during this session as well, I would even go as far as saying I prefer their versions of Back to Back and Eternal Dark to the originals. I Want Out with Hansen on co-vocals was a cool move as well.

I prefer the debut but this is not far off.
