The debut album of Ghost Ship Octavius is one of those albums that immediately gives you a strong impression. It grabs your attention right from the start and is able to keep that attention throughout the whole record thanks to its variety and strong musicianship.

Matt Wicklund and Van Williams make a winning team in Ghost Ship Octavius's debut album. Their talent to produce intricate, hard-hitting songs combined with the soaring performance of vocalist Adōn Fanion reaches epic proportions. Dark in atmosphere and themes, Ghost Ship Octavius borrows elements like groovy riffs à la Nevermore and Communic, and the melodic virtuosity of the likes of Darkwater. Add outstanding solos and a grandiose sound to the equation, and you have a very auspicious start for this band.

Very good find, BloodTears. I'm surprised by this debut. Great vocals and guitars. Agreed with your comparisons to Nevermore, Communic, and Darkwater. One of the better progressive metal albums I've heard recently.

I'm glad you liked it! I think it will certainly give other prog albums this year a run for their money. I'm surprised with the quality of the release as well, even though the musicians are known (apart from the vocalist), it doesn't always come together so well like this.

What I have heard of this album so far has been stunningly great. Heavy & progressive metal is the order of the day & NO, it does not sound like Nevermore all that much. Got introduced to Matt Wicklund on Warre'ls Praises to the War Machine & his guitar work was quite good. This will be a must buy album for most progressive metalheads as well as those who want melody & heaviness.

This is seriously awesome! Have been searching for something in this vein for a long time without results. Best of this year, so far, hands down. Best of 2015 for me, probably. I'm in love with this beast.

However, I wouldn't call this progressive metal as much as melodic metal.

I feel this album didn't really get justice in the latest MS Awards. I wouldn't say it's better than the Congregation, but of all the others I give this a big thumbs up, especially as a debut.
