Following on from the hype of a return to form and line-up change would be a daunting task for many a band; for a band of Killswitch Engage's calibre though, Incarnate is a disappointment. While not a bad album, knowing what the band are capable of (especially after Leach had readjusted the driver's seat on Disarm The Descent), the album never really clicks in the way that you know the band can.

SO HYPED.

As a Jesse fan (Howard is good, it's just those albums feel too much like campy romances) this album is so far shaping up to be the best since Alive Or Just Breathing. Killswitch have always been the perfect blend of punk and metal in my eyes.

If you liked the one album Times Of Grace released, check this one out. It's shaping up like a blend of that and Disarm The Descent.

A staff guy...
I've been really looking forward to this album myself. Huge Jesse fan, didn't care much for Howard.

If you rate this anything less than 9 that implies that you think there is a band on this fucking planet that could make a better album within the confines of this genre? (Melodic Metalcore or even just Metalcore) That sounds delusional to me.

To me, this is an automatically legendary album, as it is a fine piece of work by the very Gods of the metalcore genre and so yeah. It's really great shit. If you disagree you're basically full of shit.

You really are MS's new idiot member.

Lol.

As much as I like Alive or Just Breathing, this band is nowhere near the top of the genre...

Conservation of idiocy? Every time we lose one, another takes its place.

I swear it feels like that sometimes. Apparently we need that equilibrium.

Yeah, someone would have to try hard to come across as having that little self-awareness of what they're saying.

An automatically legendary an album from the very Gods of metalcore as this is, it's alright. I don't listen to much metalcore at all these days, but like Rise Against, Killswitch Engage manage to write simple songs and (in KsE's case at least) fairly surface-deep lyrics, yet make them catchy and hooky enough to get me pumped up and blindly barking along whatever nonsense they're saying. Pretty much my judgment of a good KsE album these days (particularly post-As Daylight Dies) is how much of it can I imagine will push me through a tough weights session at the gym. In that regard it's not up with Disarm the Descent but still notably better than the 2009 s/t. It's pretty entertaining throughout for what it is, and with some good variety in the songs (although Cut Me Loose and We Carry On are too close to each other for comfort). I'd probably rate it a low 7 as far as an 'objective' rating goes, but simple enjoyment value probably gets it closer to an 8.

You ARE an idiot. You're an idiot for down-rating every album in top 20 of 2016 so your favorite albums of the year get higher.

Oh yeah, also he seems to like listening to Trivium quite a lot for all those 1's, hihi.

Agreed with a poster above. As Daylight Dies is one of my favorite albums ever and I stopped listening right after that. Thank goodness.

I didn't call you an idiot because of your opinion. I called you an idiot for you thinking that anyone who disagrees with you is "delusional" and "full of shit."

Anyways, I gave this album from "the very Gods of metalcore" a listen too, and is ok. Better then the last album, which was already enjoyable, but not outstanding.

Nontheless, I played both the self-titled and Alive Or Just Breathing afterwards, and both blow this one out of the water so much it isn't funny . Now, those are absolutely class A melodic metalcore.

Oh man I sure missed some juicy idiocy. I thought I was a bit too extreme of a Killswitch fan (at least for Jesse era) but that guy just blew me out of the water. At the very least, I can't take the opinion of someone who gave BMTH's latest "effort" a 10 but Amorphis's a 1. Or to use a single-band example, Holy War by Thy Art Is Murder a 10 but Hate 1, they are way too similar sounding to justify a "best ever" and "worst ever" difference.

Anyway this is exactly the stuff that I expected (and wanted) from them. It's nothing groundbreaking but in a genre of Asking Alexandria clones and washed-up older acts this is in between Parkway Drive (solid at the very least) and August Burns Red (consistently great) in quality. In a more objective standpoint this deserves somewhere along a 7-8, just like what musclassia said.

But it's been a very long time since we got an album like this. It feels like a time machine to 2004, but an actually authentic one. Bullet For My Valentine came somewhat close to getting that feel with their latest album, but that was more on the rock end than the kickass bro-core end. That makes me squeeeeeee in joy so much, since it was a generic as hell time for mainstream metal but it feels like home to me. At the end of the day, music is entertainment, and this makes me happy.

I won't call you an idiot for your opinions as others have. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. It becomes difficult to make a stand for you though when you belittle and look down upon anyone who expresses dissent; even going so far as to utilize your expert medical opinion by diagnosing someone over the internet as delusional over something as subjectively controversial(?) as music, but I understand that you have your opinions. I just wish you wouldn't force others to share the same opinions as you. I also wish that you would mature beyond puberty and your adolescence before coming here and telling us that we're all wrong for not agreeing with you. Until then, I will support anyone who labels you a douche canoe. You deserve that much... Oh, and this album is mediocre at best.

There's some nice moments, but for the most part it sounds completely mailed in. Haven't really liked anything they've done in the past 10 years anyway, so not a shocker. I will say that Leach's cleans are on point here, but unfortunately even that doesn't really do anything to pull this album out of mediocrity.
