Snow has driven in from all directions. Severe cold and fierce winds have numbed the heart. The wolf has swallowed the sun and the pain and the suffering is just too much to bear.

Very good sound and seems that all the right ingredients are present here, but I think this album is lacking in highlights - some songs to remember (with the exception of the first track). Feels kinda lazy...

"Never Left" could be a highlight

It's funny. This is the exact kind of album I was afraid was coming after their some of his more recent albums (EFatB, Disc 1, Disc 2, Hour of the Nightingale). But this really feels like a step forward. It's not perfect but the more prolonged soft portions don't drag like they did on EFatB and Disc 1. Every song seems to have something going for it.

Good for few listens and forget. Not a single memorable one but all are good for a relaxed listening.

In the beginning I was made of clay. Then I bit the apple and they changed me to metal 🤘

Good, better than SFTN imo but songs feel very 'samey'. Not a whole lot of variation between the tracks like earlier STS records had. I do really like the ambiance though and the slow pace is super chill and relaxed. Firelights, Upon the Water and Stone Wings are my favorites after a handful of listens. Not really liking the title track though.

Edit: its weird, I tend to enjoy the STS tracks that everyone else here doesn't and I dislike the ones everyone praises! I can't seem to get into the first 2 tracks on this record but the rest of the album I love!

Alright I like this album but... am I going crazy or does the first song remind anyone of Kiss from a Rose by Seal?

More depressive and soft than old albums. Atmosphere drew me into the album. Candidate to doom album of the year.

I thought this would be crushingly depressing considering the title and the Hallatar release which came before it, but there's surprisingly a lot of warmth and gentleness mixed in with the gloom and despair. Sometimes everything sounds full and great but other times it sounds like there's something missing, which I suppose could be argued fits the theme. It could also be argued that Raivio has spread himself thin in terms of writing between the last StS triple album, Trees of Eternity, and Hallatar, but I think he made another solid album which stands out in enough of it's own ways to make it enjoyable. He's definitely channeling everything he has into music and he's still succeeding. Also, most of the vocal work here is really well done.

Felt really disappointed with the album, their previous album songs of the north i,ii and iii was still palatable. This one sounded really average. Only the title track felt like a properly constructed song. Rest of them didn't really generate much emotions.

Well, I think if it was any other band, I would not have cared for this album at all. But loving StS since many many years, I just had to try this one again, and again, and again. And I am happy to say that it has finally grown on me.
It was definitely frustrating at first because I loved the intensity of the previous albums, but I now accept the new direction of the band and embrace it.
Nice to see them evolve.

Even though it's not as heavy as the previous records and the tracks don't feel diverse enough at times, I can't help but love the entirety of it.

I love the title of this album, very poetic. The title track is the standout song for me, but the whole album is good.
