Biography

Space Eater was formed as a project of former members of the band called After Life. After several attempts to create original music with this otherwise cover oriented band that has already established a strong name with the audience as one of the best Iron Maiden cover bands in Belgrade, Bo?ko Radi?ić (vocals) and Stanislav ?ar?anski (lead guitar) started searching for suitable members for the remaining positions of the band in late 2003. Some people were found, but without moving in any direction after several months and only a couple of rehearsals the idea was put to rest. It was brought back in October 2004, when Karlo Testen (bass) and Nemanja Pavlović (guitar) were introduced to the band, as well as an old After Life compatriot Nikola Roglić (drums). This combination turned out to be perfect for what the band needed and it has been proved soon. With one completely finished song back from the After Life period ("Afterlife"), Space Eater quickly took of and made another original song ("Merciful Angel"). The band then applied for the national Radio 202 Demo Masters Tournament and reached semifinals, where its performance was interrupted by the police due to violent moshing and band never actually finished it. Although the band hadn't gone to finals, it was called to perform as guest on the finals night that was broadcast live nationwide and recorded in the Radio Belgrade's Studio 6. That night Space Eater for the first time presented 2 new tracks, an intro titled "Beyond Time" and a new song "Bombs Away".

Recently the band had to part ways with the drummer, Nikola. The temporary replacement behind the drum battery was Vladimir Jevtić, the former member of the sadly defunct band Dungeon Bell. At this time the drummer for the band is Vladimir Bogdanović from our friend thrash metal band Underdeath.

While the band name has admittedly been taken from the Gamma Ray song from the Heading For Tomorrow album, musically Space Eater has nothing to do with this German band. Its music is melodic thrash metal of the American kind, mostly influenced by bands such as Testament, Agent Steel and Heathen. Besides making and playing originals, Space Eater has also been playing cover songs from diverse bands: Overkill, King Diamond, Exodus, Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden, Sepultura and Testament.

In February 2005 band has recorded a live demo at Studio 6 of Radio Belgrade that is available for download at the band's official site and features 3 songs + 1 intro: "Beyond Time", "Bombs Away", "Afterlife" and "Merciful Angel".

In 2005 Space Eater entered qualifications for "Zaječarska Gitarijada", the oldest and the biggest competition for unsigned rock bands, and took third place among numerous participating bands nationwide. Space Eater was the only metal band to enter the finals and lost by one vote. The live recording of "Bombs Away" featured on Bombs Away! demo is from the finals of that event broadcast on national TV.

March 2006 saw the release of a new 3-track demo Bombs Away! that features following songs: "Bombs Away", "Merciful Angel" and "Space Eater". Demo was again recorded at Studio 6, but on professional equipment and is now representative for what Space Eater stands for: speed, strength and strong sense of melody. This demo has been awarded the 'Demo of the Month' title in April issue of Serbian Metal Hammer magazine.

In the beginning of 2007 the band has signed a deal with the Swedish label I Hate Records, who will release the Merciful Angel album by middle of 2007. Album is currently being recorded and will be comprised of intro "MCMXCIX" and songs "Bombs Away", "Afterlife", "Space Eater", "Merciful Angel", "Deceitful Eyes", "Operaphobia", "Overkill", "Death From Below", "The One".

In January 2009, Space Eater recorded 8 demo songs for the new album and started looking for the label to release it. On June 3, 2009 the tragedy happened, Bosko and his sister died, and the band was stopped. In January the band signed with Stormspell Records and started to practice for the new album that was recorded from April to June and played several gigs, of which the largest was on Exit Festival. The album, titled Aftershock, was released in August 2010.
