Mithridatum - Harrowing lyrics

Tracks

01. Sojourn

Lonesome darkness sojourn
Pilgrim of the extreme
Who dwelt in the valley of the shadow
Beyond the cemetery hill
Wanderer
Navigator
Days are drained despondent
Ache to be released
No traction gained
Careen on the icy roadway
Envision two doorways
One of hope
Where is the path that leads me there
The other is the stairway downward
Shudder at the thoughts
Whispering from the towering emptiness
The heavy sound of boots against the ground
Thudding silent
Deafening
The heedless sigh of a winter wind rustling
When the weight is invisible no one sees your strength
In tragedy to rest the sun of days left for your eyes
Blistering winds and the bitterness of the air
Alas these shores are bleak and silent
Healing is not possible
Only in the past can I find you now
Channel my grief into jaws
Torch my lungs solely for this purpose
The only matter that would mean anything
I do not intend to disturb your slumber
As you called it
The great rest
Though I would bring you back if I could
I wish we would have kicked down your door
And pulled you from that instant
It is unthinkable

02. Silhouette

Incarcerated by body
Bound in chronology
Mirror after mirror
To show you how you've withered
Pale reflections desperately drawn and torn asunder
Ground in dragging motions
Horrid figure
Lament compounded with seconds passing
Set down by the wayside
Gloom clouds gathering restlessness
Woven webs from thread
That we may aim for nets spun of false gold
Chasing ghastly cackling shadows through corridors of mirrors and smoke
Fear
Vicious circles
Tragedy set in motion
Mind becomes mirror inside a tomb of no light
Unclouded by optimism absurd
And confidence not deserved
Clarity slips from grasp
Taking flight
Never to be quite understood
Is there more to life than a minefield of sarcasm and foolishness
I sense before I became this
Breathing the ashes and retrospect
Sown to the floor
Only dust
Silence does not settle here
Grey static clamor wasting life
A husk to suffocate inside
A tomb to abandon my aborted self
The sun sets painfully slow
Drowning in temporal deeps boiled into our vaporous ghosts
Incinerated

03. Mournful Glow

Frigid moon in isolation hanging
Casts through the groaning limbs a strangled shine
The glow falls malaised on the passageway
Its conclusion choked in fog
The hourglass has filled with lead
Rigid nightfall brimming with paranoia
Shattering glass
To rend the stillness
Shiver sent rattling along the spine
Phantoms conjured
Translucent
Unmoving
The harvester's hand outstretched
Leaden footfalls descend
Silhouette looms overhead
Harrowing final doorway confessed
Further into emptiness
Beyond dreams
Life's aspiration withering
Gasping cheated memory
Glowering ghouls emanate from my skull
No longer to discern what is real
From the mind's staged trickery
Walls disintegrate into a forlorn wasteland
Wraiths in the doorway
Claws reaching in darkness
My demons have manifested
Between the black holes in my mind and the winter and the void
Might I persist
To my senses
I've lost the world around me
I open my eyes to nothing

04. Lower Power

A simple symphony
Dreamt endlessly in stillness and silence
In the timeless void
Mute cascade
Washing over exulted forms
Swimming without motion
Comatose and existent
Soothed
Plucked from the seraphim strings
As the fervent sands embrace the tide
Figures levitate above the planet's core
My frame becomes molten
Smoldering to see magma waves engulf the Earth
Erasing the world we knew from its surface
Monuments and mountain peaks sunken to ruin below
All denied at the glacial walls of self
Angel wings pulverize the ceiling of my abyss
The man in the mirror's fragmentation
The surface exposed to the light
The order that danced in regretful form
Over top the ground
The return diminished
To reclaim oneself
Or tend to untoward scars
Vision blunted into remnants and desolation
I turn from the crown
And step down
Into the splintering haze
I yearn to be human
Will I ever live
I wish to exist
Now cast into ash
Dismal and quiet
Unsung in the depths
Rest my dreams

05. The Passageway

Alas the seasons have eroded
My withered frame rests beneath the weight of years
Though I yearn to persist
Harvested are the grains of time
Bitter winds batter this precipice
Yet there is warmth in knowing you've been here before
The cold
Nothingness in my stead
I do not welcome
Yet with certainty it will come
And then I will join you there
Lowering a veil of woeful farewells
I find solace beyond closed eyes
My slowing pulse
Immersed in the soothing breeze born on foam wreathed waves
The sands below shift and shimmer
A leviathan swell rises from the azure depths before me
My reflection stares back from within the mercurial towering wave
Voices of the past radiate
Recalling the faces of personalities that have long since melted away
Crystalline and real
A labyrinth of ancestral murmuring
I see them clearly
Dissolving the dividing decades that plowed forth as glacial eons
As though you never left
The familial bond
Eclipsing the wreckage and wounds of our earthly course
The pilgrim emerges with an outstretched hand
The passageway is opened to a world both alien and known
Dimethyltryptamine speak to me
Supplant these final shores
Brother you have returned
