| It gets weaker and weaker every year. we want back line-ups like damnation 2008 and 2009. we also want back the deathfest. this year is a bit tiny better than last year, but still weak. |

Here are the stage times.
Whoever is responsible for those truly deserves to be Decapitated. It's fine til 5 p.m., either you have a band on Terrorizer Stage or bands playing on the other two stages at the same time. But after 5 it's clashes clashes clashes. It's only a one day festival ffs! Why the hell do they force you to decide which one of the headliners you want to see?! |

They'd love to run the Deathfest and have great lineups at Damnation each year, but the fact is not enough people went to the festival in the past years and it just doesn't make the money to put back into the next year, which is unfortunate. Still, there are some great bands there this year. |

Yeh, it is a bit bad... I was interested in having a look at Ulver, but I imagine an intimate Devin show will be impossible to escape from... |

How exactly is it possible to split the headliners at an indoor festival? You cant physically fit 3000+ people into a 2000 capacity room - and you certainly cant fit them all in a 1200 capacity room.
So these are the only possibilities I can think of:
1. Stagger the headliners but stop letting people into the room when it's full, annoying hundreds of people who cant then choose to go to another stage because there's nobody else playing.
2. Stop selling tickets once the main stage capacity is reached, and have an empty festival with a rubbish atmosphere for most of the day.
3. Just let everyone in anyway and let people get hurt and organisers/venue get fined for breaking safety regulations, and not have another festival again because of it.
4. Shove all 23 bands on the same stage one after the other and play about 9 minutes each.
Which one of those is better than a couple of clashes??
Tbh, I think they've done a pretty good job with timing this year. In the past, it's only been possible to see about 8 full sets at most. This year, if things run smoothly and you don't mind running between stages, it's possible to see 13. I'd say that's pretty good going for £29... especially as Ulver alone generally charge £20-25.
Even if you were really adamant about seeing both headliners, with Devin having a long set you can still get to see 45 mins of each, and 40 mins each of Godflesh and Decapitated with the overlap. Everything else that clashes is mostly completely different fanbases anyway, so doesn't really matter much.
Seriously, if you think the clashes here are bad, you really can't be pleased.
The overall lineup isn't as good as the mighty 2009 (ignoring the weak headliners that year), but with Ulver, Godflesh, Doom, Altar of Plagues, Dragged Into Sunlight, Shining, Paul Catten playing a Medulla Nocte set, and A Forest of Stars (all with not a single clash or overlap), it's looking like a bloody good day for me. I'll just pretend the likes of Xerath, Turisas, Evile, Chthonic and God Is An Astronaut aren't actually there. |

It is with great regret that Damnation Festival announces that Decapitated will no longer be performing this coming Saturday.
The band were returning from a tour in America this week, when the plane they were travelling on was forced to crash land in Poland. As a consequence, the band will not be able to travel this weekend.
A statement from the band was received as follows:
"We are extremely sorry to inform our fans, that due to unforeseen circumstances that are out of our control, we will unfortunately have to cancel our shows in Aalborg (Aalborg Metal Festival) and Leeds (Damnation Festival)"
Festival Organiser, Gavin McInally added "It's a major blow to the festival to lose a band like Decapitated, especially with only days to go but I understand entirely why they need time to recover from what must have been a terrifying incident.
"It's disappointing news for both us and the band but most importantly, no one was seriously injured and hopefully we will be able to host Decapitated in the future."
Ulver have agreed to extend their set to 90mins following the news and Damnation Festival pledges to do everything possible to make this up to disappointed Decapitated fans. |
