Believer - Working On New Material

Official press release

Legendary technical metal act, Believer, are currently in the process of writing their fifth album. It's their third for Metal Blade Records and the follow up to 2011's Transhuman, which was heavily spun on SiriusXM's Liquid Metal and received stellar reviews in print and online. Believer also performed at last year's New England Metal and Hardcore fest. Since then, the band has been writing new material.

Founding member Kurt Bachman elaborates: "As we begin the writing process, I feel that this will be the most sensual of all Believer releases. Once again we are striving to create something unique, while not throwing away any riff just because it might not fit the typical Believer mold. This is part of the process we love and hate. We love being creative, yet we place intense pressure on ourselves to write something we'll enjoy hearing and playing at least 2060 times. Of course, we are sticking to our two main goals: 1) Have fun and 2) Don't die in the process."

While Bachman's goals don't seem all that lofty, the band is well known for their challenging and thought-provoking material, as seen on their previous two Metal Blade efforts, Gabriel and Transhuman. Updates regarding art and music will be made available within the coming months. Make sure to follow the band on Facebook and Twitter for the most immediate updates.

Believer - New Album Update

US metallers Believer have issued the following update in regards to their forthcoming full-length album:

"We're pleased to announce that mixing and mastering for the upcoming album is complete. We decided early on in project that we wanted an outside person to mix the record so we could spend more time writing and recording. Kevin Leaman (Believer guitarist) recommended Kevin Gutierrez from Assembly Line Studios for mixing this record. Leaman had worked with Gutierrez previously and said that he was really easy to work with. From the first telephone conversation it was clear that Gutierrez understood exactly what we were looking for sonically and he seemed really interested in helping us achieve that.

We let Kevin know we wanted this album to sound very musical; not just be heavy. We wanted to use the whole frequency range and not have all the mids scooped out so that everything going on in the tunes was audible. Most importantly, we wanted to keep the dynamics. We were a little nervous about not being there physically for the mix, but we spent so much time tweaking in the sounds for tracking that we were confident he had good stuff to work with. The rough mixes we made for ourselves already sounded pretty decent.

Kevin was fast and efficient. He'd send us reference mixes as he completed each song and we'd be emailing/texting comments back and forth at all hours of the day and night. He was very responsive to our change requests and was really helpful in setting up the mastering session and communicating what we wanted to Maor Appelbaum of Maor Appelbaum Mastering.

Maor also understood what we were trying to achieve with the dynamics and the overall listening experience we wanted to create on this album.

Sonically we're extremely happy with this album and can't wait for other people to hear it. We feel like this is a really strong and unique album in the Believer catalog and it's something we're definitely proud of.

So what will you hear? As we mentioned, we focused more on the overall musicality which included more instrumental layers than we used before. The vocals were also more of a focus as we have had much feedback throughout the years, specifically to get out of the one dimensional realm. Kurt wanted the vocals to be more complimentary to the overall tune feel, so he used many facets of his vocal abilities. As with all Believer albums, this one is definitely unique."

Believer - Busy Recording New Album

Kurt Bachman the mainman of US technical thrash outfit Believer has issued the following update:

"It's been quite a long time since I blogged to you. It has been a busy several months for us but happy to say that we are recording the follow up to Gabriel now! The drums are just about finished and I have many tunes in the bag for the initial rhythm guitars. Once again, the tunes are quite different and when I listen to them it kind of sounds like someone else wrote them which creeped me out at first. I really like the tunes and you will be able to tell that we stepped outside our comfort zones. Always fun to do that! We hope to finish this up in the next couple months and I will keep you posted on possible release dates once we discuss with Metal Blade."

Believer - Two New Songs Online

Two new Believer songs from the new album "Gabriel" posted online. "Redshift" and "Medwton" are now streaming on the band's MySpace page.

"Medwton" was the first track to be heard from Gabriel after an early, unmastered version was "leaked" on Bam Margera's radio show. "Redshift" was the first Believer track ever to be written around the bass and drums rather than the guitar and drums. This provided more room to experiment with dynamics and some of the crazy electronic sounds that are found throughout.

Joey, Kurt and Jeff recently joined Dirty Dan in the 105.7 The X studios for an entertaining and informative interview. Listen to all four interview segments on the band's MySpace page -- located in the player directly below "Medwton".

"Gabriel" was released in the USA on 17 March, and on 9 April in Europe.

Joey Daub - Believer To Be Back? FOT Progress, +

The former Believer drummer Joey Daub open his new website, and posted the following statement:

"Hi everyone, thanx for stopping by the site. I am still working on some things but it has been fun putting it together. Hope you enjoy it!

Currently, I am working on the new Fountain of Tears CD. I can't wait to get it out and hear your feedback. I am very pleased with the progress this band has made over the years and look forward to seeing you out on the road.

Also in the works is a side project I am doing with FoT keyboardist, Jeff King. The project is called "Year of Plenty" and is along the lines of Jazz/Fusion/Prog . We are having a fun time writing the songs(when FoT duties are light), and look forward to start recording soon.

Last of all, after 11 years, Kurt Bachman and I have crossed paths again and have been getting together to jam (again, when FoT duties are light) and throw around some musical ideas. Could this be the start of a long awaited Believer album? Keep posted for progress on that story. We will see what happens.

Thanx, Joey Daub"
