Finnish battle metallers Turisas just announced that Taiwanese melodic black metallers Chthonic and Finnish power metallers Kiuas are filling the support slots on their upcoming UK & Ireland Tour, taking off by the end of October to mid-November.

On November 7th (Belfast) and 8th (Dublin), instead of Chthonic and Kiuas, Canadian musician Devin Townsend will join as co-headliner.

Arch Enemy has announced its return to North America via a headlining run on the MetalSucks and Full Metal Jackie Present: North American Khaos 2011 tour, set to kick off in September. The North American leg of Arch Enemy's world tour will kick off in Baltimore on September 8th, and features an all-star cast of Devildriver, Skeletonwitch and Chthonic in support.

Said vocalist Angela Gossow: "We pledge to the United States of America and its beautiful neighbor Canada that we will only bring the utmost heavy metal 'Khaos' to your shores! We can't wait to kick off this tour come September. After all the European summer festivals, we are ready to fire!"

This special version is included as a bonus track on the digital release of Takao, available on iTunes. A short teaser is available in the clip below.

Commented the band: "The melody of Takao's chorus is based on the tones of Taiwanese lyrics, but it's so unbelievable that when we try to single it in English, it sounds very Finnish, Irish, or generally European! Maybe the folk music in different nations have some kind of connection!"

Taiwanese metal band Chthonic have entered the studio to record their new album, Takasago Army.

Takasago Army was produced by Rickard Bengtsson (Arch Enemy, Nemesis) in Sweet Spot Studios, Sweden. The 10-track album completes a trilogy by Chthonic, binding the albums Seediq Bale (2007) and Mirror Of Retribution (2009) together. The album will be released in June through Spinefarm Records.

Comments bassist Doris Yeh: "The Takasago Army was a Taiwanese troop of Japanese force/Axis powers that fought in the Pacific War/World War II between 1940 and 1944. The Takasago soldiers were descendants of a brave and powerful people from the mountains of Taiwan, people with a strong warrior tradition. They impressed their rivals with their cunning, tenacity and skill on the battlefield, and they became the most revered and most feared combat unit in the Japanese Imperial Army.

We have been categorized as black metal, death metal, melodic death, symphonic black metal and folk metal by different critics, and we appreciate that it's very hard to put us into a precise genre, On the one hand, we are inspired by some western metal music, but on the other, we are influenced by traditional Asian music forms, such as pentatonic scales, 'enka' music, and Taiwanese opera.

When we were writing this new album, we tried to find the perfect balance between these two traditions, so that is why we've decided to use the 'orient metal' banner to define what we do. Plus, it provides a reference point for other Asian bands who want to head in the same direction...."

In other news, Chthonic are planning several festival shows for the summer. And also an extended re-release version of Seediq Bale will be available through Spinefarm Records in summer.

Taiwanese extreme metallers Chthonic have been honored with the "Best International Artist" award for their participation in the Free Tibet concert in Taipei on July 11 of this year. The award was given out at this year's Tibetan Music Awards, which took place on October 10 in McLeod Ganj, India.

Says vocalist Freddy Lim: "This is an honor for all the performers, staff, volunteers, and audiences involved with the Free Tibet concert earlier this year in Taiwan. Let's keep fighting for justice and freedom, and I believe that all Tibetans will be winners and earn their rights eventually!"

Chthonic is currently on tour with Satyricon in support of its latest album, "Mirror of Retribution", which was issued in the U.S. on September 15 via Spinefarm Records.

Formed in 1995, Chthonic (a name deriving from a Greek word signifying spirits of the underworld) has delivered an 11-track body of work that touches on both the spirit and mortal worlds, with loss of national identity and the sometimes turbulent history of their homeland recurring themes.

With Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano at the production and mixing helm, "Mirror Of Retribution" sees the award-winning musicians further developing a style that started with the 1999 album "Where The Ancestors' Souls Gathered", blending full-on metal of the darker persuasion with traditional Taiwanese instruments such as two-string violin, the hena.
