Possessed - Unveil New Line-Up

Jeff Becerra, the wheelchair-bound frontman of recently reactivated US death thrash metal band Possessed, has introduced the band's revamped line-up.

Becerra commented as follows: "Now we finally have the sound and talent that I always wanted!! It's like a dream come true! I can't wait to go back out there and give everyone the best shows ever! We are now tuning back up to 440 standard E and busy writing some new material."

Possessed is:

Cavalera Conspiracy - Possessed Cover Online

Cavalera Conspiracy have posted two outtakes/b-side tracks from the recording sessions of the band's debut album "Inflikted" on their MySpace page. Check out the original track "In Conspiracy" and a cover of Possessed's "The Exorcist" at this location.

The new project, featuring Sepultura founding members Max (guitar, vocals) and Igor Cavalera (drums), alongside Joe Duplantier (bass), vocalist of French metallers Gojira, and Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo, will make its live debut tonight (Friday, May 30) at the Electric Weekend in Madrid, Spain.

Possessed - 1984 Demo Available For Download

In 1985, San Francisco's Possessed released their now-legendary death metal debut "Seven Churches".

Not only did Seven Churches' blend of thrash riffs, grunting vocals and blistering leads send shockwaves of excitement throughout the underground tape-trading scene of the day, but the album's final track, "Death Metal"?and Possessed's 1984 demo of the same name?just may have given an official name to the genre that had already spawned such American bands as Death, Morbid Angel and Master.

Months before "Seven Churches" hit the stores, cassettes of "Death Metal" had been spreading throughout the extreme metal community. While the tape typically traded contained four tracks: 1) 'Death Metal', 2) 'Evil Warriors', 3) 'Burning in Hell' and 4) 'Fallen Angel', the original self-produced demo did not contain 'Fallen Angel'. 'Fallen Angel' was reportedly recorded during the "Death Metal" session, but did not make the official demo, because it was banged out quickly at the end of the recording session. But, through the tape-trading process, "Fallen Angel" became tacked on to the end of "Death Metal".
