Official press release

Mercenary have been joined by Danish drummer Morten Løwe Sørensen (Submission, The Arcane Order), who made the following comment:

"I'm happy to announce that I have now joined Mercenary. After having shared the stage with Mercenary alongside my band Submission, I became really impressed by their shows and musicianship, so I'm really looking forward to deliver some kick-ass shows as their drummer. I'm also very excited about being involved in the writing for the next album. It will show a new Mercenary, and I mean that in a very positive way. In my opinion the new material will definitely be the strongest to this date!"

Guitarist Jakob Mølbjerg adds: "We're very happy to have Morten join the ranks. Not only is he a true master behind the drums, he's also a very easygoing person with a great musical drive and understanding. With Morten in the band, there's a whole new sense of renewed and shared energy, creativity and ambition. We've had several rehearsal sessions in the last couple of weeks, and the metal just flows. The old songs already sound like Morten have played them for years, and the new material is crushing and intense.

On a further note, we now have a complete lineup. René will handle all vocals from now on, and trust us, he's more than capable of doing so. As everybody who has seen us live in the last couple of years is fully aware of, René is a real powerhouse, and he has so much more under his belt than he got to display on the previous album (genital pun intended)."

Mercenary will perform with their new lineup for the first time at the Shock Rock Festival on 12th of February, 2010 (with Carpark North, The Rumour Said Fire). More info here: www.rockshock.dk.

Lost a Morten, got a Morten.
I don't know. I really want these guys to kick as much ass as they did up to now but the loss of three (!) members is a very big counter-argument. And although René is a great guy and a very capable singer I just don't see him doing a good Mikkel.

And now who's on keyboard again?

Hmm I really hope that loosing three members will improve their sound, but I fear the opposite

I have no idea who's on the keys now, but that's probably published on their website or MySpace (EDIT: it's not, so we'll probably have to wait and see)

I fear this is bad news, Rene doing all the vocals, sounds like they just removed the clean vocals and kept the growls, It would sound decent, but I must say mikkels vocals where one of the best parts of Mercenary.

Hmmm I really wonder what a new album from these guys will sound like since they've added a monster of a drummer.

There's still the sampler option on stage. Which would mean that they won't use keyboards anymore

René can handle the clean vocals just fine. He's actually a pretty versatile singer. His voice doesn't have the same depth Mikkel's had though. I'm not worried about their performance of the old material as much as the new material they'll be releasing.

According to a previous statement of Jakob they'll try and be harder and more brutal (yet old school) than before. I guess the new drummer underlines that statement.

Wohoo, a triple-quote-post. Haven't done one of these in quite a few years
