And the cover art is a total fail, IMO.

Read Thryce's comment regarding the artist and the painting's background. It is perhaps one of the most fitting covers in Burzum's repertoire.

Yeah, but a cover is supposed to be flashy and grab your attention from the moment you see it, not make you think about what the painter and musician wanted to say with it.
Besides, as !J.O.O.E.! already said: "Pink on a Black Metal album cover?". Rather... odd.

Hey, that's just my two cents on this particular cover... The naked woman with a mournful expression on her face doesn't exactly say "Black Metal" or "Burzum" to someone who doesn't know the story behind the painting. My favorite Burzum cover was for "Hvis Lyset Tar Os". Now that one was spot on.

Seriously this cover was made by a 9 (or 90) year old who just discovered Paint? Fail IMHO...

Actually it's made by renowned 19th century painter William Adolphe Bouguereau, who is infinitely more talented than you'll ever be.

Vikernes said the following about the cover art: "The cover is part of a painting called Elegy. I used it in this context because the album deals with the concept of falling, not least in a metaphysical sense. By definition, "elegy" means a mournful, melancholy, or plaintive poem. It is a funeral song or a lament for the dead. It is a poem written in elegiac meter or a sad or mournful musical composition."

My question is, why would Varg spend so much money recording at Grieghallen when he could make an equal sounding recording for very little money in his own home? The music sounds decent, better than Belus, but the production is similarly terrible.

I personally think the cover is great. And that was well phrased.

Too bad it's not supposed to be like Filosofem, then we could assume each song would just be those sound clips looped for fifteen minutes.

Meh.

Heck yeah I'm going to download and buy it. It's Burzum!!

I liked Belus, I don't know why so many people didn't take to it. It's not Filosofem, I agree, but let's face it, NOTHING will ever be Filosofem. That album is a masterpiece and will stand as one of BM's proudest moments.

I love the cover. I think it shows maturity not only for Varg, but for the genre as well. It's about time BM started showing some depth. Yes, fine art=depth, especially when you compare all the uniform album covers that are typical of this music. I was a little shocked when I saw it for the first time. I mean, have you noticed this album is using a generic font for the logo? I love it.

Of course, that's just the cover. The music sounds...forgettable at this point. Listening to the whole thing will, hopefully, change my mind.

Mmmh... This is the fourth time I listen to this album very carefully, and my impressions are still "undefined". That's not necessarily a bad sign. However, I think I'm one of the few morons that really liked "Belus" for many reasons (I gave it a strong 9 and I don't think I'll ever drop the rating); and in my opinion "Fallen" simply doesn't seem to reach the same level.

I listened to the whole thing, and it has its moments but it doesn't convey any lasting impression, this and Belus gave me the same basic feeling, its well executed, and undoubtedly has Burzum's trademark sound but I still expected more. I'm going to give a couple of more listens, we never know it might click after a while. All in all, its solid but it won't last the test of time, unlike his pre-prison albums.

Disagree with this view. I hate marketability when it comes to music and art.

Burzum have never been one of those bands who screamed out "Black Metal" just by looking at the cover art. Majority of the Burzum album covers have been aimed at artistry and a meaningful background. I think it was meant to be Tolkeinesque as much as possible.

On a completely seperate note, there was a bet about avatar change regarding this album if I remember right. I think it looks like a few Edward Cullen avatars might just appear based on the samples so far.

I only saw this 2 years+ later haha...
Honestly:
1. You don't know me, so shut the fuck up about what I am or will be.
2. I meant the COVER, not the background picture on the cover.
3. Thank you for the quote on what Varg said. Very informative.
